Match Thread: Wolves vs Reading FC (Carabao Cup)

Wolves will try and avoid the ignomony of being a Premier League club which falls at the first hurdle in the Cup when they face Reading at Molineux this evening.
Having already seen Crystal Palace and Spurs fail in this season's competition, Nuno Espirito Santo will surely be keen to see his team proceed to the next round at the expense of Reading, who are near the bottom of the Championship. Reading coach Jose Gomes knows Nuno well as he was on the coaching staff at Porto whilst Nuno was still goalkeeper there, and they have a mutual respect for each other.
Wolves will be expected to field a relatively young team this evening, with perhaps players like Morgan Gibbs-White and Max Kilman getting a start alongside John Ruddy. It remains to be seen however whether Connor Coady makes his usual start!
It may prove difficult to get a stream for this game, but if not then efforts will be made to keep this board up to date based on commentary on the Official Site. Board members are encouraged to post their own observations as the game progresses.

Well I've just had to pay £2:50 for the joy of listening to tonight's match on Wolves Player - seemingly due to a change in EFL rules!! I will listen and try to keep those of you interested up to speed.

Only Charlie Adam and Tyler Blackett who I recognise in the Reading side. They seem to be doing their best to target Vallejo as the weak link - which he may be, but Bennett is next to him and keeping things under control. Cutrone doing some good stuff at the other end, and has just brought out a save from their keeper.

Free audio commentary on BBC Sheffield for me and also BBC West Midlands. But only on DAB. EFL must have sold rights to Sky. A lot of hastle to pay 2.50 or search DAB for poxy radio commentary for a minor fixture.

New lad Bruno Jordao gives Wolves the lead from distance. Goalkeeper should probably have stopped it. Hehas recently also scored two for under 23's and is a midfielder

Time they scrapped this silly competition , even if we win it so what? Its a mickey mouse cup of reserves for most prem teams and didnt even know we were playing tonight till I saw this thread.

Bruno Jordao has gone over on his ankle, and the stretcher is being called on so it looks like the end of his game, which is a shame after giving us the lead and looks a promising player. Taylor Perry comes on to replace him.

I know what you are saying Angry, but I have to say, 50 years ago this June I was at the old Wembley watching my other team at the time Swindon Town beating Arsenal in the League Cup Final, and it was probably the best sporting day I have ever had. I know the probability of a lower league team repeating that feat is low, but I think it would be a shame to deny them the chance.

Half time whistle goes. Wolves lead through a Bruno Jordao shot which the goal keeper fumbled. Jordao later went off injured. Wolves have generally been in charge with little threat from Reading evident

Relieved we’re up at HT. I am very pro-the league cup, always have been and our history would be all the poorer if it hadn’t been introduced. Times change, it’s true, however this competition should remain a real priority for us for silverware. A trip to Wembley in any cup final trumps, for me, a trip to Wembley for a semi.

McIntyre and Adam - who is particularly disgruntled about it - are substituted by Reading. Wolves still in control; at the back, but struggling a bit to get their act together up front. Neto breaks into the area and shoots and the crowd appeal for handball but a corner is given. Good play between Neves & Vinagre but the cross just too close to the goalie.

Another injury to a young Wolves player and a stretcher for Shabani after an innocuous looking challenge by him. This has happened just after we made our last substitution. So down to 10 men for the last 5 minutes plus added time.

Considering all the changes to the team tonight and the number of youngsters making their first start, plus the injuries we have suffered - finishing on nine men, that is a good result, and we are in the draw for the next round. I'm just pi$$ed off as I forecast a 1 - 0 win for us!!
