Match Thread: Wolves vs Liverpool FC

Possibly the biggest game of Wolves' season so far kicks off at Molineux at 8pm this evening. After a very close game recently at Anfield, Wolves have the chance to bring a halt to the Liverpool juggernaut team which has dropped only two points all season, and to jump over Manchester United into 5th place in the League.
When facing the press Wolves Head Coach Nuno Espirito Santo has adopted esxactly the same mantra as he has before all other games, by playing down the importance of the game whilst stressing the need to 'compete'. However he will surely know how importantly fans view this game and the potential chance of making nationwide headlines by inflicting the first defeat on Jurgen Klopp's formidable team this season. Having achieved the 'double' over their closest rivals Manchester City this season, fans will have no doubt that their team can come out of this game with rewards.
Two pieces of good news have come out of the camp this week, most notably that defender Willy Boly is back in training with the team, and that striker Diogo Jota may be fit to take part in tonight's game after missing the last four games. Also our first new signing in the January window has been completed, although Ecuadorian Leonardo Campana will initially slot into the Under 23's team and be developed from there. It is still hoped some new faces will be seen for the first team.
Senior referee Michael Oliver will be in charge of tonight's game which will be screened on BT Sport 1.
This board will hopefully provide some updates of the progress of the game (although to avoid the risk of interrupted streaming, I will be watching it in the pub!!). Members are encouraged to post their observations for the benefit of those unable to follow it otherwise.

Not too long to wait for the team news now. Will Jota make the bench or not? Neto is obviously in good form and would be motivated to get a goal v Liverpool officially recognised!

Surely, we have a fair chance, especially if we play like minute 46-90 at St Mary’s. Conversely if minute 1-45 are more representative, then oh dear!! I think we’ll be up for it, in the same way I know Molineux will. I am anticipating a very good, exciting match.

Half time whistle goes after an entertaining first half. Wolves were stung early on beam excellent header from a corner by Henderson but I would say it’s been pretty even since then. Wolves look fluid, energetic and creative and Adama has his jet- heeled boots on again. All to play for in the second half and hopefully we can get at least a draw.

Good game so far and we don’t look intimidated, giving as good as we get.
A bit sharper up front and we could have been on level terms or even ahead.
Stream keeps breaking down which is frustrating.

Disappointing but is it any surprise? The bin dippers probably are the most consistent team in premier league history and you have to wonder if they will ever lose again

Truly gutted, the better side, especially in the second half and yet we lose.

Wolves played really well and deserved something from the game, it felt like the spurs game in that we played so well but got nothing. Gutted with the result but happy with how we played, I don't think we could of done much more, we just need to be more clinical in front of goal. We pushed a class liverpool side all the way. Unlucky tonight wolves but nuno is building a class team of our own for sure.

Agree with everyone that we have played well and come away empty handed, and we all know that we have a tiny, committed squad. Miserable nevertheless. In Manchester last week I was chatting with a City fan who praised Wolves and of course hoped we knocked United out of the cup.
He had been though City’s own dark days and said that years ago, before the upsurge, he thought that if Man City could ever win the Premier he could die happy. But they have, and now they are no longer top he is as miserable as ever.
Meantime I do think that Traore’s rise has kind of masked the gaping wound that Boly’s injury has inflicted. Saiss has done way better than I expected but we have missed Willy’s majestic defending and the terror he inflicts during corners.
Good to see him on the bench again. May take a while to get him back to his best but can’t wait to see him again.
