Match Thread: Wolves vs Crystal Palace

The final home game of the season sees Wolves welcome Crystal Palace to Molineux for a game which fans will know is a must win for the home team if they wish to achieve Europa League status for next season.
Wolves were pushed down into seventh place in the Premier League by Spurs after their impressive 3-0 victory over Leicester yesterday, however three points from this evening's game would restore the status quo, and take everything to next Sunday's final games of the season. So a repeat of last week's comprehensive defeat of Everton would be great result for Wolves, especially after the disappointment of being robbed of two points by poor refereeing and VAR decisions at Burnley midweek.
Daniel Podence has made a very positive impact on the team in the last two matches and it's reasonable to expect that he will also start tonight's game - in fact Nuno may well to continue with the Burnley starting eleven which was a very solid attacking line-up. Palace will be without the suspended Benteke and injured full back Van Aarnholt. It remains to be seen whether former Wolves keeper Wayne Hennessey will make an appearance.
Tonight's game will be officiated by one of the 'newbie' PL referees Peter Bankes who was particularly poor when taking charge of the home game with Newcastle.
The game will be screened on BT Sports 1 and will kick off at 20:15 Hrs
It is hoped that regular updates will be made on this site and members are encouraged to post their own observations for the benefit of those unable to follow the game

Donk back in defence, our modern day utility man. Certainly plenty on the bench. hopefully Dear Podence will have another influential match at Molineux. When at their best I like the Doc link up on the right.

That is true but it too is in a Traditional Flemish area however being the capital and with The language of royalty, government and law Being french, it has taken over. In fact , the Flemish language was suppressed for many years In officialdom. I could go on ........ The TV screen has gone blank

Three added minutes played and it’s half time. A really well created goal for PD to open his account with, which has brightened up an otherwise pretty poor game. Saha and Ayew are doing their best to play the referee with their antics and I fear he falls for most of them which is a worry to me. We need another storming second half performance now to try and equal Spurs’ GD

Fair comment Chesh, a poor half of little entertainment brightened up by another really good goal by Wolves. What is it with us since the restart, we don’t score half as many as we should but when we do, they all seem very good goals indeed.
It’s the same as Burnley however, and all other matches, 1 goal leads are never enough, we really need another one (or more) because I would be surprised not to see some chances opening up in the second half for Palace who haven’t been that bad and are certainly not out of it ..... and yes, ideally another 3 to overtake the Spurs GD.
One final word on Belgium, and I am receiving no fee from their tourist board here, but I urge all who are able, to visit Bruges (Brugge in Flemish ...... it another Flemish town , for the record!). A wonderful, mystical city with plenty of Belgium beer and only 80 minutes drive from the tunnel. Watch the film ‘In Bruges’ to whet your appetite, a modern day classic in its own right. If you time it right, you could even spend an evening watching Club Brugge play football.

It'd be nice to finish 6th, but as 7th gets us Europa league football it isn't the end of the world if we miss the coveted 6th spot. I'm looking forward to our Europa league games more than the end of this league which seeing pool run away with it has been a damp squid in many ways although we have had some fantastic results notably the victories against spurs and city home/away

Ayew goes down in agony after hardly being touched by CC and once again the ref buys it & gives CC a yellow card. Free kick cleared well. I agree with Ivy we are playing better and Palace are struggling to cope with us.

That’s it. League football is finished at Molineux for 2019/20 and thankfully on a high! I demand a lap of honour.
A very decent second half performance, completely in control, and comfortable to watch .... for once. Not just comfortable however, enjoyable too. Two really well worked goals.
Whilst we’ve lost the initiative from a GD perspective we now have a difficult last match versus Chelsea at Stamford Bridge where I believe only a Wolves win will guarantee us 6th spot, but there again I don’t understand the permutations for the Europa. One things for sure, I cannot see Spurs losing to Palace on tonight’s reckoning.
The reality is, that we now have 59 points which is already 2 better than last year, thus yet again a season of advancement, so excellent stuff for us Wolves fans.
Great stuff, back at Molineux on 6th August now, for the Olympiakos second leg.
