so are the QFs in Germany just one leg affairs ? What a mess this season is with this covid hoax.

Yes the Quarter Finals start next Monday (10th) when Utd will play Copenhagen. The winner of tonight's game will play the winner of the Sevilla v Roma match in a one-leg game. The semi final will be played on Sunday 16th, with the Final on Friday 21st.

Cheers Cheshire, I suspected that was the case. I must admit, I've been half hearted about the premier league campaign after realising we wouldn't achieve the impossible by finishing above Manure/Leicester but this evening is a different matter entirely. What a shame molineux will be empty for arguably our biggest game since ...........1972?

Now there’s a debate, what is our biggest game since 1972? I’d say City ‘74 Forest ‘80, Arsenal 1998 or Watford last year (our semi’s), possible / probable candidates as likely bigger BUT if we get to the semi’s in this competition, well ................ ? 😁

Positives for the night - I believe we have the better team, individually and collectively, a great and better manager (of course), capable of scoring some great goals, play for the full 90 minutes (disregard the Chelsea effort), a generally mean defence.

Negatives - post ‘restart’ we haven’t been consistent enough in attack (we are scorers of great goals, not great goal scorers), Olympiakos are no mugs and we didn’t exactly murder them over there, despite them being down to 10 for 60 minutes plus, no fans, 1-1 is a dicey first leg scoreline and can’t be relied on to sit on any laurels.

I think the positives outweigh the negatives and we’ll win but I do hope we take the game to Olympiakos to a certain degree. Having said that, a measured first half and ramping it up a bit in the second half wouldn’t phase me too much. As I say though, the score we achieved in Piraeus is a good one, but cannot be relied upon to deliver a quarter final berth.

So Nuno has opted for a 3 - 4 - 3 line-up to start tonight's game with Podence and Adama to put pressure on from the wings and hopefully feed Raul in the centre. Line-up:

Good play by Wolves from back to front ends with Adama getting another corner., then another! Pitch seems quite slippery tonight & Jonny has just slipped over and hurt his right knee needing treatment. Seems he’ll be OK. Saiss gets flattened in the area & ref blows up before Raul nets the ball. Free kick given to the goalie,,

Jonny crumpled on the floor with nobody near him, worrying. The pass Neves played to Traore immediately afterwards was fantastic as was Traores control.

The resultant corner ends in the back of the net by Jimenez but foul by Saiss on the keeper. Jonny is finished for the day. Innocuous. Vinagre replacing him.

Jonny’s injury must have been worse than it seemed as he is replaced by Vinagre

By the way, the winners here tonight play Seville in the quarters

Wow. That was close ...... Patricio, thus far a spectator pulls off a great save after a quick Greek attack ..... worrying the extreme ease of their attacking play there.

Another strange decision by ref against Adama, then gives a throw in against us. Superb play by Adama brings excellent control by Raul who sets up Neves for a shot but blocked for a corner. Joao puts it in low but to no avail

Only player beats the offside to get into plenty of space and a good pass back which is put in off Neves. VAR checking for offside but I think Doc just played him onside. Going on for ages whilst they have a drink and disallowed!!!!!

Some appalling defensive play, cut through us like butter, and we just didn’t pick up the spare man.

Joao booked for catching Valbuena’s foot accidentally. Only are playing quite a high line with their front three.

Only have been controlling the game for the last ten minutes but then PD feeds Raul on right wing and for some reason he tries a trick shot which goes high over the bar.

Good attack by Oly but shot is very wide. Tai oaks booked for a foul on Neves. Neves takes a good shot but collected by goalie. 4 added minutes

Nasty clash of heads between Joao and Ba. Ba gets a yellow card as he caught Joao from behind. Lengthy treatment needed for Joao and Ba apologies when Joao's up on his feet and OK to continue

Half time whistle goes after over 7 minutes. DP earned us a penalty when they lost the ball in their area and their goalie pushed him over as he chased the ball. Raul sent him the wrong way and slotted it as we have come to expect. We were later very lucky to avoid them drawing level after an offside decision which was extremely close, but it went to show they are a very decent team and can be dangerous in attack. Jonny has to be subbed after slipping and hurting his right knee, which we hope isn’t too serious at this time of the season.

I can’t slate VAR for us and then dismiss when it goes for us. I’d be fuming if I supported Olympiakos. These offsides are just plain ridiculous but it has gone for us.
Started well, but they’ve come more into it. Perhaps we finished slightly the better but in addition to the disallowed goal, they could have score at least two.
Tense, nervy encounter .... set to continue I reckon

Having said that.... DP goes for goal rather than pass to Jota and brings a save. Superb pass from CC to feed Doc who gets a corner. Willy Boly fluffs it in front of an open goal!!

We’re on the front foot for a bit. A bit of shooting and football pinball and it goes wide with Boly inches away from making it two. That was from a corner which was a result of a brilliant long Coady pass ..... Nevesesque

Olympiakos are throwing everything at us and going oh so close, it is worrying. On the contrary we mount an attack then pass the ball back to our defence! Joao takes the ball forward, can’t see a pass and puts a great shot in just over the bar

Blimey that was nerve-wracking - but we're through and that's all that matters! UTW!

All over and we have done it. Nuno embraces his opposite no. Then rushes to embrace Rui.
A less than convincing performance and evidence of tiredness creeping in perhaps. We need to take more of our chances up front, and continue the good work at the back. Doc looks tired to me, and whilst Raul worked his socks off tonight I thought he was running out of ideas when attacking. Adama had an ineffective night also, but our midfield and defence held out very strongly, plus our top man Rui.
I think we might struggle against Sevilla, but let’s keep the faith in Nuno and our boys.
Our next game - the quarter - final will be next Tuesday

Not the most inspiring win but a win nonetheless.
I feel we will have to up our game for the next tie, the lads looked a bit rudderless at times tonight and we didn’t really have the player connections we usually have up front.

I meant biggest game at molineux Ivy, but a great win tonight.

A minor emergency occurred here earlier , tonight of all nights... but from what I saw we got away with it tonight and Patricio contender for man of the match?

Got a bit nervy at times to say the least but it wasn't going to be all plain sailing, Olympiacos are a good side. I couldn't see us keeping a clean sheet the longer it went on and were fortunate with the disallowed goal. If we had scored that and had it disallowed I would have been well unchuffed.
Jota should have sewn it up when one on one with their keeper and Rui had to pull out a couple of top saves but for every chance they had to score, we probably did as well.
Seville next. Not surprisingly it gets harder as we go.

There's a few candidates for biggest match at Molineux but I always think of the wins over Ferencvaros and, especially, Juventus.

Sevilla are the best team left in the competition for me, couldnt get any tougher but who would have thought we would be 3 games away from winning the Europa league when we were in league 1 a few seasons ago

Absolutely, who’d have thought. An incredible few years. TC, Solbakken, Deanosaurus, M&M. Now this.

Going to the last match of the season under Lambert v Preston to the first match I got to the next season under Nuno was transition enough and Never thought it could / would come to this. Very happy. But still keen enough to will them on next Tuesday now. We cannot just see this as the end of the achievement, it can get even better despite the excellent opposition we are up against now. Seville will be an incredible match and I go into it with hope!.

And yes Angry, if just looking at Molineux matches, tonight could well be up there. Tragic fans couldn’t be there, a supreme irony that we wait 48 years for something like this, and nobody to watch it. Mind you, it was bad enough watching via a really poor online link, image what it would have been like at Molineux. Cardiac arrest time!! But would have been fantastic. I just feel fortunate I got to at least one Euro night this season v Espanyol.

A great achievement, very happy tonight ...... like the other thread on modern football, silverware is what we dream of. Underdogs we might be now ..... but tonight well done lads. Proud.
