Match Thread: Wolves v Sevilla - Europa League Quarter Final
By Wolves
August 11 2020
Wolves fans will be hoping their team can emulate the achievement of Manchester United by reaching the Europa League semi-final in tonight's game against Spanish side Sevilla
The view of most knowledgable spokespeople is that Wolves are definite underdogs going into tonight's game bearing in mind the achievements of Sevilla in this league in recent seasons. However it is also recognised that Wolves are always capable of picking up an unexpected result!!
Coach Nuno Espirito Santo will be without Jonny Castro Otto, who sadly sustained a serious knee injury during the last game, and Daniel Podence who is suspended. Ruben Vinagre will be expected to step in for Jonny, whilst either Diogo Jota or Pedro Neto are the likely replacements for Podence. It will be interesting to see whether Nuno sticks to his tried and tested line-up or has something else up his sleeve. What is beyond doubt is that Sevilla have a very varied and talented squad and it will take a mighty performance from Wolves to overcome them, for a place in the semi-finals against United which wil be played on Suinday.
Tonight's game will be screened by BT Sports channel 1 and kicks off at 8pm. The referee will be Daniele Orsato from Italy
This board will hopefully carry regular updates and members are encouraged to post their own observations for the benefit of those unable to watch the game.

Hopefully Nuno will not be too conservative in his selection and setup, and will allow us the opportunity to put Sevilla under some pressure, not hoping that we can defend for the majority and catch them on the break.
Such a shame that Jonny and Podence are going to be absent.
What ever the result is we can all be proud of this teams achievements over the past 56? matches and during such terrible times.
Cmon lads.
As we improve, season on season, I hope we are subjected to many more occasions such as tonight, it is absolutely what it is all about. Personally I hope our next one is versus Manchester United at the weekend ...... it is most definitely possible.
Whatever happens this evening, they have all done us proud. That’s not defeatist in the slightest ..... we have a great team that has given us a great deal of joy. I, like others, just we hope we can produce somewhere near our best this evening, I think we’ll have to.
UTW!

Sevilla are favourites but beatable, their away record is very modest and although not an away game they aren't at the Ramon Sanchez either. I have just put £100 on wolves to win the whole thing at 13-1 - speculative but ridiculous odds when you consider utd are just under 3.
I will be watching Hesgoals, but if the stream dies, if anyone gets a decent stream I would hope they can put it on the main match thread as we are all watching /listening bar oldngold. I dont have crappy BT sports and we all know what streams are like ....let battle commence

We’re off
COYW !!

I think the keeper had done his homework. 9/10 you’d bank on Jimenez
Seville goes wide and no I didn’t see a drinks break either

Sevilla are also defending well and tend to quickly rob Adama or Raul when they present any threat with the ball
One added minute 0 - 0

Fingers and toes crossed .
There was no question about that, none whatsoever
100% should have been retaken

Jota ready to join the fray
Very tense

87 gone
Losing 0-1

Wolves 0 Sevilla 1
A poor match from our team in my view - one step too far.
Oh well that’s our season finished for a few weeks! It will be interesting to see how Man Utd cope with Sevilla
Proud of all of them for a great season.

What a year we have had, and no shame in our loss tonight.
Proud of all of them for a great season.
plenty of shame in the performance , it was woeful and cowardly
Yes the penalty should have been retaken, most definitely, but to win matches at a high level, or any level for that matter, we cannot rely on just one chance and then defend for our lives. I will say this however, I thought our defenders did so well but he ball just kept coming back. Zero outlet. There is no way we could have won that cup doing the same every match as tonight, and to a certain but lesser extent, what we did versus Olympiakos.
The best Side won tonight, no question but I am truly disappointed we didn’t put on a better show. Personally, I found the whole thing slightly surreal if honest ........ maybe a bad dream. I was far more upset with our FA Cup semi final defeat last year by a long way. Oh, to get back to watching football in the flesh.
So our mammoth record breaking season is finally over, only about 4-5 weeks and we’re off again.
UTW!!

I thought we defended well but had nothing going forward. They've been on the go since last July and was this the 59th or 60th match of the season or something? More matches than anyone else and against a side of Sevilla's quality obviously it turned out to be too much.
A bitter disappointment and I have to say that I am starting to get to the point of having had enough. After all the rubbish I watched over the years when we were trash and now we are good, you build your hopes up but we can't get over the finishing line. The FA Cup last season and now this.
All a bit of a knee jerk reaction I suppose and tomorrow I'll probably fell differently and ready to go again. UTW.
We have had a great season but I'm not sure where we go from here to close the gap on the top teams. Regardless of league results , we're a million miles from that level and if it wasn't for heroic defending Sevilla would have won by a landslide. Jimenez doesnt have the pace to be a top striker despite being an excellent hold up man, Jota is a mid table prem player at best, with Moutinho/Nevez always ceding possession to teams with the latters party trick of blasting from 100 yards out becoming tiresome. Our defence is excellent and proved to be the case again tonight but after an hour I felt like we were 4-0 down even at 0-0 as it was obvious there was only going to be one winner
Naturally, things may not be equal, key players Might leave
