Match Thread: Leicester City vs Wolves

Competitors
By Wolves
November 8 2020

Wolves travel to Leicester today for another difficult challenge in this season's Premier League. After collecting ten points in four games including their win against Crystal Palace last Friday, Wolves will be bouyant, but City have also had a good week with wins at Leeds and Braga FC.

This is likely to be a competition between two teams with strong defences who like to strike on the counter attack. Last season saw two draws between the teams - after the intervention of VAR saved City in their home game on the opening day of the season. After the early season mauling they suffered at West Ham recently Wolves have conceded only one goal, whilst City have scored ten in their last three games!!

Rayan Ait-Nouri made an impressive start to his Wolves career against Palace with a scoring debut, but he will be in competition with Romain Saiss and fit again Frederico Marcal for the starting place in today's game. Having signed a new five year contract with Wolves Pedro Neto will presumably be hoping to start again with the exciting Daniel Podence in attack.

Coach Nuno Espirito Santo has not declared any injuries, whilst City still have several of their first team players on the injury list, but Jonny Evans may well be able to return to defensive duties today.

Todays referee will be Anthony Taylor

The game will feature on Sky Super Sunday with a kick off time of 2pm

This board will hopefully carry regular updates, and board members are encouraged to post their own observations for the benefit of those unable to maintain a good stream!!!

An unchanged starting line-up selected by Nuno for today's game, and a strong team put out by Brendan Rodgers too with Maddison and Vardy starting. Wolves line-up:

Sky doing their usual stuff - hardly any mention of us or Leicester in the build up. Concentrating on matches elsewhere. Pathetic

Two teams that are strong defensively but I doubt that either team will sit back although we may take some time to settle in. Just hope that we don’t concede early, find our feet and take the game to them.
We have been improving with every game so Leicester shouldn’t intimidate us and our blossoming forward line has the skill and determination to worry their defence.
Vardy will be an obvious threat so am hoping that Coady can organise us to nullify him.
Expecting a draw, hoping for a win.

(Sm9) Don't let Cheshire see you say that Ivy about sky but entirely agree with the sentiment. Unfortunately I won't be able to watch the match this afternoon, 2pm on a Sunday afternoon is a ridiculous time for a football match meaning shops are closed at 4pm. It should be an evening kickoff or at least 3 pm but sky play matches when they choose

I have only just switched on but on the contrary Angry I agree that the constant reflection on games involving the likes of Man Utd is tedious when they should be concentrating on the game to come.
Have to agree with Roy Keane that we need to score more goals.

19 minutes to 2 and Nuno gets on! The usual Nuno stuff 😂 , great man!

I like that we are unchanged, and that very much includes AN. This match feels quite exciting in anticipation to the KO, particularly with the way Leicester play. The Foxes seem to be much more like the side that that pushed for the title of late, especially in their build up and a side that I like watching. In that respect I am expecting our back 3 or 5 to be under a great deal of pressure but may well give us a number of opportunities in attack, including on the break. Certainly on most days you’d back our defence to absorb stuff. Ultimately this is a match where we certainly have the opportunity to win!

Let’s see!! As it stands, can’t wait!

UTW!!

Apparently Matt Doherty put the ball over for Kane to score Spurs winner against West Brom, so they top the table for an hour or so.

I’m disappointed by AN so far, he isn’t playing the attacking role of a wing back at all, and every pass of his is backwards.

This site is driving me bonker, as well as VAR - been chucked off 4 or 5 times now since the penalty.

On the ball, safe to say Leicester are very comfortable at the moment. A couple of green shoots for us, nothing really concrete.

Back to the penalty ..... seems you just have to blast the ball in the general direction of the defender now to get the penalty. Utterly absurd.

Fuchs arrows just wide. C’mon Wanderers!

Our best play come in the last 5 minutes, maybe we can transfer that to the next 45.

Not a great half of football for Wolves but ffing VAR robs us (yet again) versus Leicester. The whole system is ridiculous.

We have to pick up the pace second half and when we get the opportunity to get the ball in the box, get it in and with far better quality.

We’re certainly not out off this match

Half time and a difficult first 45 for Wolves. It now seems the stupid ref only watched the replay on the monitor in slow speed. The ball clearly hit Kilman on the hand but it was smashed at him & he had no chance to move it, so it certainly wasn’t deliberate!!
The second was a cleared pen, but well saved by Rui.
City have played our game, soaking up the pressure then breaking on us & we have had to defend well. We have made some good breaks forward by rut little final product, & no shots on target. We are still missing Jonny’s attacking flair down the left wing. Hoping for a typical Wolves second half!
Pundits think the penalty decision is harsh except of course Roy Keane!!
City 1 Wolves 0

Difficult to say exactly what’s going on but Sky are showing pictures at HT of an apparent debate about the Kilman penalty. The interesting thing is that the debate seems to taking place in the Stockley Park balls-up bunker

Re: Match Thread: Leicester City vs Wolves

I think second best overall although better in that second half. We don’t create enough chances to score and today when Neves connected so well, bloody Schmiechal got in the way. It’s easy to just say we don’t perform in the first half, however today, we seemed to be badly affected by the ludicrous VAR / referreeing decision. Conversely, the penalty miss appeared to bolster us up.

Leicester are a very decent side and they’ll beat many more this season but we do need to do more and more inventive up front. Some of the crosses / corners we put in were very poor especially in the first 60-75 minutes. I thought Traore looked a bit more like it today after he come on.

I also thought Boly played extremely well today. Some terrific, skilful and imposing defending today.

Okay, not at our best for certain but an absolute ffing balls ache to lose to that penalty decision. Pitiful.

UTW!!

Reading back on how the match panned out, I'm glad I chose to enjoy the sun outside and get some essentials rather than watch the game in an empty stadium with a stream breaking up decided on a ball blasted at arm for a penalty again.

How many times do people keep needing to make obvious statements such as no football match should be decided on a ball blasted at an arm from 1 yard away before something is done? The definition of insanity is to keep spending money on time on a corrupt product which football is - society is increasingly sucking the joy out of everything from melodramatic lockdowns meaning matches have no atmosphere to players earning half a million a week to games decided on VAR and balls blasted at arms deciding games. I still support Wolves but doubt I will spend another penny funding a game , I don't enjoy it particularly anymore and until fans stop funding bloated monsters like Sky which have helped destroy the product nothing will ever change. It will be kickoffs at ridiculous times, obscene wages, never ending talk of super leagues , blatant bias towards big clubs and although VAR/handballs aren't down to sky it's the straw that breaks the camels back for me.

Fosun are a great brand who have transformed the club but with Nuno unable to see family with flight restrictions for eg and the insane way society is going meaning football is affected ( empty stadiums, puny ponces looking for penalties every match with the Americanisation of the football stop starting it with VAR etc ) it's come 20 years too late as far as I'm concerned.I have no idea who wolves are playing next and don't really care

We really weren’t at the races today, second best in all departments and although we only lost to a dubious referee decision overall we can’t complain.
Leicester bossed us in midfield from the start and we did nothing to counter it.
RAN was overrun time and time again and barely entered the opposition half., poor.
When you are negotiating a new 100000? contract for a player surely they should be starting the match and not just used in the last 15 minutes.
Again, too few players pushing forward and far too many sideways and backwards passes allowing their defenders to organise. We really are in need of a creative midfielder who can push forward and create chances for our opportunity starved forwards.
Play like this against Southampton and it will be more points lost.

Both matches wasn’t it? The first was the first match of the season and the very first big VAR bollox up with Donk smashing in at close range after the ball helplessly and unavoidably hit Boly’s arm which he could be absolutely nothing about ever if he had wanted to. My memory is not so clear about the second match.
