Match Thread: FA Cup 3rd Round Wolves vs Crystal Palace
More of this please!
By Wolves
January 8 2021
Wolves host Crystal Palace in the first foray of this season's FA Cup for both teams at Molineux this evening, and Wolves will be looking for a much longer cup run than achieved in this year's Carabao Cup!
Nuno Espirito Santo's team will face a reasonably buoyant Palace today after they have had a couple of positive results, whilst Wolves will still be rueing dropping two points last time out at Brighton on Saturday. Nuno's team selection will be unpredictable, but Leander Dendoncker is hopefully getting closer to a return to action soon. Those remaining on the injury list are still not expected to be fit. Patrick Cutrone and Morgan Gibbs-White have both been recalled from loans, but tonight's game may well be too early for either of them.
The game will kick off at 19:45 hrs and will be screened by BT on their BT Sport Extra 2 channel, which appears to a streaming service and is probably only available to BT subscribers.
This board will attempt to provide regular updates on the progress of the game, and members are encouraged to post their own observations for the benefit of those unable to otherwise follow it.

Palace fielding an under strength team so we should take advantage.
Hoping that Fabio has a good outing and is not going to be eclipsed by Cutrone which would damage his confidence.
Fingers crossed for a cup run
UTW!

Other than that, not a bad start from Wolves, possession wise anyway

Wolves 1 Palace 0
Traore thunderbolt, with his left foot!
Much deserved lead 👍

Wolves 1 Palace 0
Throughly deserved 1-0 lead, we’ve set the pace and John Ruddy has thus far been redundant.
Some great stuff from Neto, Traore is taking the game to Palace (and a fabulous goal!) with some good support from Semedo. We are much better in midfield too, Moutinho and the Donk and some excellent passing from Neves.
Being picky, Ait Nouri is giving the ball away a bit too easy and doesn’t look that composed (but is doing his best to support the attack) and, of course, that miss from Silva won’t have done his confidence that much good.
Hopefully no more Jeckyll and Hyde second half. I’d be inclined to get Cutrone on fro a 20-25 minute run out.

Wolves having most of the ball so far. Adama takes his gloves off - so perhaps he means business!!
Oh yes. That should do his confidence a power of good. Neves and Muitinho have been great and Semedo too
Great goal.
Midfield linking well and Moutinho pulling the strings.
Massive difference in possession so we need to take advantage and add some more goals.

Ivy will be pleased to see the ref give a foul throw against Ayew
😂 Absolutely.
W’ve lost a touch of momentum this half, Palace with much more of the ball, however I don’t feel too concerned at the moment at least. A good opportunity for a few breaks

MGW about to come on

Cutrone is on, Silva off.

Wolves 1 Crystal Palace 0

Some good positives, Neto, Traore, Donk back, Neves, in fact midfield in general....... good organised and solid defence.
The most important thing in the cup is to be in the hat for the next round, we are with a goal deserving of winning any match ..... it’s been a while coming but congratulations to Traore for a real pile driver!!
Plenty of confidence to take into the next match versus the Toffees
UTW

But a win is a win which has to be good for the boys confidence.
Thought Semedo had a much better game as did Fabio and it was nice to see the Donk back and doing what he does so well. RAN starting to look more confident but must work on his passing!,
Ruddy must be exhausted.
Fantastic goal and Neves outstanding all night. After the stat we talked about earlier in the week about his tackling and winning possession more than any other player, I decided to wake up and watch carefully and I have to say you can see where that stat came from.
Good games from Coady, Saiss, Donk, Neto and Samedo had one of his better matches.
Good to be in the next round and hopefully have a good run this year.

They are doing the cup draw tonight at 7pm and we’ll be number 5, Chorley number 3.
I wouldn’t mind Argyle either, number 1 ..... for local interest.
Actually following the 4th round draw, the 5th round draw will also take place, will be interesting to see how they work that and who we might get?

1986, our lowest ebb, excellent draw!!
