Match Thread: Watford FC vs Wolves

Cleared For Duty
By Wolves
September 11 2021

Wolves travel to Vicarage Road Watford or their first game in thirteen days following the International break, desperately keen to get some goals and some points on to the board for this season

Following all the threats that he would not be allowed to play today having been prevented from playing in Mexico's International games, Raul Jiminez has finally been cleared to lead the line for Wolves today, and further his search for his first goals of the season. Coach Bruno Lage has had little time to prepare his full squad due to so many players being away with their international teams, but also thankfully has no new injury worries.

Willy Boly, Yerson Mosquera and Hee Chan Hwang will all be available for selection today, whilst Jonny and Pedro Neto remain on the injury list. Wolves will be keen to break Watford's winning run of ten home games which have included eight clean sheets and only three goals conceded, however the majority of those were during their promotion-winning season in the Championship. Bruno Lage will be more than keen to see his team break their scoring duck so far this season, despite the record number of shots they have achieved on goal in their previous three games.

Today's game will kick off at 15:00hrs and will be refereed by Peter Bankes with Simon Hooper on VAR duty, both of these are relative newcomers to the Premier League.

This board will endeavour to provide regular updates on the game and board members are encouraged to post their own observations for the benefit of those unable to otherwise follow it.

No changes for today's starting eleven from the Man Utd game, however Boly, Mosquera and Hwang make it on to the bench. Line-up:

Only just managed to get a stream Hesgoal not working for me today!! Adama on fire again and Neves missing from outside the box again. Watford defender just booked for a poor tackle on Trink

Powerful shot by Sissoko from edge of the box well saved by Sa for a corner which is put high and wide for goal kick.

Exactly the same here. Nothing's working properly.

Terrific one-two’s between Trink & Raul, into their box but then we’ll defended. 30 mins gone and Wolves have had 57% possession

Lovely dribbling run by Trink into area but his left foot shot is too close to keeper. Good play by Watford & Starr puts a ball right across our area which King fails to connect with for a certain goal.

My internet seems to be very slow too especially on this site! Neves was fouled 10 yds outside the area & Joao put the free kick far too high over the bar. We have only brought one save out of their keeper again! Into final minute of 1st half.

Excellent play by Trink out of defence to feed Semedo who shoots at the keeper ion last action before half time. I haven't seen enough of the game to do a proper summary other than to say it's much the same as the last 3 games - plenty of possession and threat until we get in front of goal. I was worried when Adama put a cross over and Raul appeared to duck under it!! Adama and Trink are posing a real threat on the wings but very little in the middle.
If you can't get a stream try this one, but it may take a few goes:

Here we go again with no changes. Adama goes down the right wing and gets a good cross in for a good header by Trink but too easy for the keeper. Watford get another corner but comes to nothing.

Keep losing my stream!!

Gwanghwamun being prepared - probably for Raul who has had very little involvement in the game that I have seen. Another glorious chance for Semedo through on goal and he drags it wide. Unbelievable!!
Trincao goes off for Hwang

Lost stream completely now so having to rely on OS commentary. Another mistake by Semedo. Danny Rose gets a yellow card for a foul on Adama. Then Marcal gets a yellow card. Adama fouled from behind by Dennis who also gets a yellow card.
Commentary is way behind live play Internet is total shite this afternoon.
Goal to Wolves scored by a Watford player and I still don’t know how
Watford 0 Wolves 1

Marcal put it across the area and it was deflected in by a defender. DP replaces Adama

Hwang makes it two after great play by DP and a panic in their area
Watford 0 Wolves 2

Four added minutes to play - looks like we’re on our way to our first 3 points of the season!!
Jimenez is flagged offside despite being in his own half shots and hits the post and is booked!!

All over and we have our first points of the season after an own goal and a debut goal for Hee Chan Hwang.
Internet has been atrocious on all fronts including the OS commentary, and streaming has been extremely difficult and laborious hence poor updates on here. I am away next Saturday so cannot host but hope board members will rise to the occasion!

Watford 0 Wolves 2

Managed to get a stream for the last 30 minutes and we were well in charge of the game.
Our constant pressing caused Watford all sorts of problems and they were never able to sustain any patterns of play. Neves looks reborn with this style of play and Semedo is proving his worth.
Hwang looked up for the fight and put himself about effectively when he came on, bagging a goal in the process, a very good start. Podence made a difference when he came on, his skill is outrageous at times. It is reassuring that the players seem to be very comfortable with the new style and the passing accuracy is much improved from last season as is the movement off the ball.
Hopefully this win will bring a greater confidence and further points.

At last! A win and some goals. Hopefully this kick-starts things.
Don't know what's been going on with the internet this afternoon. Everything's been terrible.
Many thanks for your efforts Chesh.

Watched both MOTD and the Wolves TV highlights which both seem to suggest that the stats I saw yesterday were correct - that we were, again, the better side and created or attempted a catalogue of chances.

Well, at last we managed to score one of them, with a bit of Hornets help with the first! Obviously both goals were very scrappy finishes but who cares, perhaps that’s what we needed to get going … it was one of them matches we desperately needed to avoid another defeat and really needed the win …. Job done in that respect and off the bottom of the table.

Great to see Hwang Hee-Chan get the effective winner right in front of our fans, brilliant moment for him.

Still plenty of missed opportunities though, Semedo the biggest villain yesterday …. Should have had two.

Nevertheless the lads must now be properly full of confidence ahead of Brentford next week, it’s on BT isn’t it?

Thanks for keeping the thread going Chesh in clearly difficult IT conditions.

UTW!!
