Match Thread: Brentford FC vs Wolves
Our main man is back

January 22 2022
Wolves travel to London today to face Brentford and avoid conceding their first 'double' of the season, and the first against a promoted team for twelve years
A ridiculous penalty given away by Marcal helped Wolves lose their home game against Brentford in September, in which was surely their worst home performance so far this season and equal overall to their away performance at Crystal Palace. However things have picked up since then and Wolves go into the game encouraged by recent winning performances against Manchester United and Southampton, whereas Brentford have struggled to maintain their early season results, conceding at least three goals in their last three games and sliding into the bottom half of the table.
Wolves will be bouyed by the news that midfielder Ruben Neves and defender Ki-Jana Hoever have both completed their Covid-19 isolation and are available for selection. Fans will also surely expect Toti Gomes to continue standing in for Romain Saiss in the left side of defence after his accomplished debut last Saturday. Rumours still flourish around the future of Adama Traore - the subject of an outrageous £15m bid by Spurs this week - so it will be interesting to see whether he is included in the squad, let alone the starting Xl. We can only hope that if he is to leave, his value will have been improved after finding his scoring boots for the first time last week!!
Today's game kicks off at 3pm and will be refereed by Peter Banks, with the now retired from field duty Lee Mason on VAR.
This board will hope for a decent stream to be able to offer regular updates on the progress of the game, and board members are encouraged to join in the discussion and post their own observations.

Will be tough today for sure, Brentford played well v Manchester United, however De Gea did enough in the first half and the Man Utd were clinical in the second half. We need to be on guard and seek to over turn the rather poor effort at Molineux earlier in the season.
Good luck to the boys today, 3 in midfield, Donk, Moutinho and Neves returning with Podence and Silva up front. Toti retained and no Raul.
If I may, a moment of personal indulgence. Today - to the day, and precise time, is the 50th anniversary since my dear Dad took me to see Wolves play for the very first time. I was very young though I still have many memories and they are very fond memories of a very, very special day. The final score, 0-0 v Liverpool was disappointing to a certain extent though for me, it was the start, the very beginning and absolutely fantastic.
Some great named played on both sides!
Our team that day: Parkes, Shaw, Parkin, Sunderland, Munro, McAlle, McCalliog, Hibbit, Curran, The Doog, Waggy Sub Eastoe
Liverpool: Clemence, Ross, Lindsay, Lawler, Smith, Hughes, Thompson, Hall, Callaghan, Evans, Keegan
UTW!!

Cmon lads.

Raul injured.
50 years of Ivy. What a week!! 😀

Wolves defence caught, Brentford with a chance to break but Toti Marshalls and snuffs the danger . Very good from the new lad!
Brentford long throw, whilst waiting Sa getting needlessly involved in handbags.

Amazing to think it’s 50 years. We all have our special memories. Today watching this stream reminds me of years ago in a different way …… I just want to keep banging the top of my tablet to get a better picture, just like my telly in the 70s! This stream is fuzzy at best, when it’s on!!
UTW!!

RAN puts a delightful ball in which is put out for a Wolves corner

Smashed into the wall. Well defended actually, poor free kick. 71 gone

Brentford 0 Wolves 0
He's not called CheSHIre for nothing...
My dad took me to see Wolves for the first time & one of the away team's players

Damn Risca I was hoping no one would notice!!😂😂
Apparently no further changes to either team
The players are coming back on. This match needs more. Zero shots on target in the first half but it the stoppages didn’t help, although there wasn’t a great flow before they occurred.
We did better after those breaks in play but we seemed short of ideas up front and outnumbered too. Silva was swamped but struggled. Podence not really linking up either.
As we were a little better pre HT, I agree no changes to the side yet, but yes, Traore needs to come on at some point. His pace could well change matters
Players ready and now the bloody ref clears off due to what I think is technical problems with his microphone and stuff or whatever they have these days.
This match will not restart until after 4.32pm. Ref is still faffing around in the tunnel and being wired up. I think some of our players need to be wired up too.
Here comes the ref. We might even start shortly. Ironic cheers from the crowd

Brentford 0 Wolves 1
1-0
A goal of beauty and class!!
Get in!!

Really difficult to see what happened there, I think the defender got a touch to deny Silva

Hope the ref don’t see it, they’ll be off the pitch again!!

Corner to Bees off Toti. Well dealt with. Toti looks very assured in his role in fairness to him
Traore being prepared
Hang on, red card to Toti?? What??

VAR will check.
Ref is looking again. Got to be wrong.
Awaiting, big decision.
Yellow card. Another VAR decision for us, but justly so

Bees 1 Wolves 1
That whole situation with the red, we switched off, Brentford’s Toney was all alone at the back end of the penalty area but still had to finish and did with a (sadly) fine volley.
Not necessarily Against the run of play. Bollox. Crowd are now up for it

Traore on, that’s correct, Silva off - a quiet one for him except that one run he made.

2-1
Neves from 20 yards!!!!!
C’mon me babbies

Bees 1 Wolves 2

85 gone

88 gone

Commentary suggesting another 7 minutes to add, we’ll find out very soon

Seven added minutes to play
Nervy

Semedo launches in the box, no need for that

RAN has had a proper battle on the left against Mbeuno this afternoon & done well.
Adama smashes home the third after being fed by Neves
Brentford 1 Wolves 3
VAR checking …….. he’s offside, don’t believe it

Must be into the final minute
What a shame, that was a great 3rd goal!!
FT 2-1, exhausting and exciting, 3 precious points to Wolves

Thomas Frankle is shown a red card for complaining presumably, which caps a most strange match with all that has gone on in both halves.
Good to avenge our defeat at the Mol and three more very valuable points
Brentford 1 Wolves 3
Yet another 3 points in the bag.
Good performances all round and so glad that Toti didn’t get a red card, could have set him back after such a good start. No better midfield pairing than João and Ruben, ably assisted by Leander.
I won’t criticise VAR today because the decision earned me two points.
I think that Jose Sa epitomises the squad spirit even though he pushed the limits a little.
Great three points.
Three great goals, and our two followed some good football.
Although some of his passing was not quite as accurate as usual, Neves just gets better. After three good performances, I don't think Fabio really made the most of his chance, although it must have been a difficult match for him to be fair.
The defence came under a lot of pressure in that second half but once again coped well. If we had signed a centre-half and his first two matches had been as good as Toti's I would be well chuffed and he could have counted himself very unlucky if that red card had not been overturned.
Apart from Fabio, maybe Podence was a little quieter than of late but everyone else superb.
Great three points.
