Match Thread: Pre-Season Friendly Wolves v Besiktas

Will be interesting to see if the pre season training has brought any significant changes to the teams setup and approach.

Former Burnley striker Weghorst is leading the Besiktas strike force, and they are having the better of things so far

Neves takes a free kick which the goalie pushes out to Raul and somehow he screws it wide in front of an open goal!!!

Mistake from their keeper gives the ball to Raul and this time he converts easily

No Saiss in the Turkish squad this evening

Jonny concedes a soft free kick in the D outside our goal. Ball is put over the bar at pace

Good effort from DP brings a good save.
Great play down the left between Neto but then RAN who sets up DP to convert nicely

Raul stretched for a ball earlier and seems to have hurt his groin, so is replaced by Donk, with DP playing centrally.

Very good attacking interplay from RAN earns a corner. Neves puts it into the area and Collins just fails to convert from close range. Whilst typing Pedro Neto gets the ball, rounds the keeper and scores

Just a fiver so why not?
Some neat touches from RAN and Neto especially, and a smasher from Podence.
Hope Raul is OK.

Joao clashes with Weghorst and they both get a yellow card after some good central play by RAN. Half time whistle goes and a good performance from Wolves once they settled down. Young Jackson Smith has performed well in goal.
Raul showed up their keeper and put the ball away nicely. Then RAN set up DP for a well taken goal from 12 yds. DP then set up Neto who managed to round the keeper and slot it in.
Sad to see Raul leave the game after he stretched his groin in a challenge. Should be more goals in this game

And what are we doing in Alicante in July 🌞? The players were dripping after 20 minutes.

Three nil up would suggest we have been superb but the opposition are gifting us the match, very poor from Besiktas. Struggled to put passes together in the opening 15 minutes but improved as the match progressed. Only a friendly I know but we seem to lack a certain intensity and purpose, especially going forward. Defence looks quite sound and Collins looking assured.

Second half starts with no changes to the Wolves team

Some good attacking team work through the middle leads to a DP shot being saved. Max K puts a header over from the corner

Good link up play between Donk & MGW & the latter puts a nice ball across for Neto but just to far ahead of him. Ex Everton forward Tosun joins the game for B’tas

Hard luck on MGW as he smacks a good chance against the bar.
Neto down the left has 4 to aim for in the area & puts it over them all!!

CC replaces Max & receives the armband from Neves

Our defence are protecting Smith well & meaningful attacks from B’tas are few & far between.

7 changes for Wolves with 7 minutes remaining- too many to list!!

All over. Besiktas didn’t turn out to be the opposition we may have expected but Wolves coped well with them in defence and put some good attacking football together. 3 well taken goals and some good cohesive play. What I really liked was the constant ambition to move the ball forward rather than the endless passing backwards that we are used to from our team,. Whether this is down to a four man defence I don’t know, but it may be the way forward.

After first 10/15 mins we were pretty much in charge. Must admit I expected a bit more from Besiktas.
Horrendous mistake from their 'keeper for the first goal but a great second goal.
Neto looks like he's getting there and Gibbs-White looked better the longer the match went on.
Hoping Raul's injury isn't too bad. I reckon he went off as a precaution but surely we have to bring in another forward.

A much better second half even though we didn't add to the score. Better passing going forward and Gibbs White came into the game more effectively. Neto and Jonny look to have recovered well from their injuries and Mosquera seems to be on the way back.
Much tougher tests ahead.

Quite. Leeds will have been watching that too.

I very much doubt Leeds were watching wolves play besiktas reserves.. their keeper wouldnt get games for accrington stanley

No, I doubt they would have opened up Elland Rd to have the entire squad watch on the big screen, but Leeds vs Wolves IS the first fixture. So presumably someone , perhaps the apprentice boot-shiner might have been taking a look to see if there are any holes in the armour of our gallant Wolves squad.
