Match Thread: Wolves vs Tottenham Hotspur
2023 winner

There can surely be no better day than today for Wolves to face the former League leaders Spurs at Molineux after the disastrous week the London club has endured.
Wolves look to recover from another very poor VAR decision at Brammal Lane last Saturday - which deprived Gary O'Neil of his sixth unbeaten game - and entertain Spurs at Molineux for today's early kick-off. And there seemingly can be no better time to face the team whose Manager has been named Manager of the Month for the third consecutive month and for the first three months of the season - so he must be doing something right!!
However Spurs come to the midlands today without several of their first choice players. James Maddison, Mickey Van de Ven and Richarlison have joined their injured list which already includes Ryan Sessignon, Ivan Perisic and Manor Soloman. Added to that central defenders Christian Romero and Destiny Udogie will serve suspensions after being dismissed against Chelsea on Monday night. So Ange Postecoglu will have his work cut out to field his best team, although he no doubt has a large squad to choose from, and is still likely to field a team which will pose many problems to Wolves.
Wolves will seek to repeat the win they achieved at home to Spurs earlier this year, when Adama Traore scored his last goal for the club, volleying a rebound into the top corner after a Raul Jimenez shot was parried. O'Neil will doubtless be buoyed by the return to the first team last week of Jean-Ricard Belleguarde who opened his scoring account with the club with a well taken goal, to also stake a claim for a starting place for today's game. Pedro Neto will still be absent but otherwise O'Neil has a fit squad to choose from. Hee Chan Hwang will be looking to score at home in his seventh consecutive match which would overtake the record previously set by 'King' John Richards.
Today's game is the early kick-off match and will start at 12:30pm. It will feature on TNT Sports1 and the highlights will be on MotD tonight. Our referee will be Tim Robinson, with Paul Tierney on VAR duty, and all Wolves fans will be hoping we have a VAR controversy-free afternoon!
This board will provide regular updates on the progress of the game for those unable to watch it, whilst members and visitors are encouraged to post their own observations and join in the conversation

2-1 to Wolves.
This has a represent a great opportunity for our lads today, though the lack of Neto remains a big concern. Here we are, a Spurs side, seemingly depleted from a number of first team choices.
Given the Spurs issues, I fancy us today, why not, got to appreciate however that football often does not work like that!
Off to the pub! UTW

Strong shot from JRB blocked
A very disappointing start as Wokves conceded way too eadily afeter two minutes. They have attacked well and created several chances but on many occasions they just fizzle out. Semedo has featured in many attacks down Wolves right wing but once again his final ball is desperately poor. Wolves have kept Spurs attacking chances to a minimum but they still retain a dangerous edge.

Joao pits a ball on Sasa’s head but he puts it well wide.

Wolves 2 Spurs 1
Well done for a correct forecast to Lupy!
When you look at the result against a weakened Spurs nobody would have been exactly surprised but the match was not like that.
After a poor start we dominated without anything vaguely threatening. So many wasted freekicks and corners. We talk about the loss of Neto’s attacking play but we also miss his corners.
Hope we use the international break to fix that.
Nevertheless, a warm glow after that game.
I was down the pub with me Ivybridge Wolves mates and as the second half progresses and like a broken record, I kept repeating ‘we’ll never score in a month of Sundays’ …. the opportunities and chances we wasted were adding up yet again. And then as the added time board appeared, Cunha pops a decent balls in the box and Sarabia comes up with a world class first touch and piece of skill followed by a quite brilliant finish. Cue mayhem …… and that was just the pub! It was the least we deserved from a match we largely controlled and personally I’d have been happy with the point. Have a look at the replay, even O’Neil had a hand in the goal, catching the ball on the touch line and releasing it quick for the throw.
What I hadn’t anticipated was that the fight hadn’t stopped there. This time Doyle was really quick thinking with a rapid and intelligent free kick to Sarabia who put that wonderful through ball in for Lemina ….. the rest is history. I was all over the place, dancing around the bar!! Utterly thrilling! I love football sometimes!!! Mentioning Lemina, what a great game he had, led from the front, always involved, a fitting winner.
Still plenty to do with this side, but Gary O’Neil is really giving it a great go and I am delighted at his contribution Just look of the reaction of all of the players when the winner went in …… celebrating vociferously, all of them together, even those on the bench. O’Neil has certainly got an excellent team spirit going at Wolves. As Lupy says, they collectively never give up, a wonderful attribute.
Nice to see us first on MOTD however if you like a bit of partisan commentary, give this a watch the Wolves TV extended highlights, it’s great stuff from Mikey Burrows, Thommo and Nayls with a great result from a great match!!
