Match Thread: Brentford v Wolves 05.10.2024

October 5 2024
This afternoon Wolves are away to Brentford with a 3pm kick off. My apologies for the lack of a match introduction due to ongoing family illness, however I have started this thread to ensure the site is maintained. Good luck to Wolves, we need it, we've played well in fits and starts, but it needs to start gelling. Come on me babbies. Please leave comments in the usual way.
All the best, Ivybridge Wolf .... UTW!!

An ugly defensive 1st half.
Sadly, this type of display cannot go on for much longer

Noble effort, Ivy. Thanks.
I can only follow M-by-M reports e.g. on the Beeb, but oh dear oh dear.
I find it peculiar that after S. Bueno and Toti showed promise as a partnership last week, GON splits them up, and puts the one who performed better on the bench.

Rumours are fosun are preparing a new 10 year contract for super Gaz with Terry Connor and Dean Saunders appearing on sky saying in their expert view it is a good idea. 👍

I'm afraid it's time for GON to go, patience has run out.

What a shambles!
I said after the villa game O'Neil had lost the plot and I think today it's been confirmed with yet another awful display of defending.
I'm sorry but you can't concede 5 goals against an average Brentford side and hope to survive the sack.
This team are all over the the place with no style of how to play and that's coming from the manager.
You can't blame O'Neil completely, fosun and Jeff shi have destroyed this club since Nuno left and it's so sad to think we had a great team 4 years ago but fosun decided not to kick on and have used fair play rules as a poor excuse to sell our best players.
Think we are Doomed but we certainly need a change of manager with fresh ideas to give us a glimmer of hope.
Enough is enough this can't go on any longer.

Oh dear, Oh dear. The only "consistence" we have is for the defence to repeatedly let the rest of the team down. Sorry, GON is a nice chap, but if he can't sort the problems out, someone else will have
to have a go before it's too late.

An utter shambles at the back all match. Semedo plus RAN means we don’t have proper full backs, surely the only option is to play with a 3/5 at the back even though we’ve disposed of
Kilman.
Sad to hear some negative chants aimed at GON but this is an awful start to 24/25. Some have pointed to the fixture list (some neutral somewhere has confirmed it’s been the toughest start statistically) but that just papers over the chasm of the absence of a cohesive defensive system. The team work, not just the defenders is just not there.
Whilst it remains bizarre that in this season, if we get a win or two we’ll rise up the table quickly but even so, another couple of defeats, including v Man City, we could rapidly become marooned.
I suspect GON will be gone but I’d love to know the Fosun strategy on the pitch. They don’t even talk about the eSports anymore ….. even though it was always a nonsensical sh!tty side show.

When the fixtures came out and it was clear we had a tough start, I don't think I was being too over-reaching to think that by the end of October we could have 6 points, defeat to Arsenal, draw with Chelsea, beat Forest, draw with Newcastle, defeat to Villa and Liverpool, draw with Brentford and defeats to Man. City and Brighton. Unless a miracle happens we will have one point and right now it's difficult to see where the next one is coming from. Before today I was willing to give O'Neil to the end of November. Fixtures in November 'should' be more winnable but right now I wouldn't back us to beat anyone and for me, unless the aforementioned miracle happens, I'm afraid his time should be up. Who to replace him is another matter. As others have said surely we have to go to a back 3/5.

It begs the question though, even if we do stay up ... so what? It will just be another season next campaign of nothing to play for spending as little as possible with the simple aim of avoiding relegation. It wouldn't be too bad if the club was expanding the stadium or doing something to facilitate progression, but it's stagnation at best/ regression at worst. Every season is like a hamster on a wheel furiously going round and round with no real purpose or design other than to stay on it - it all seems pointless.

First of all we need to stop the hamster wheel and let Gary get off, allowing him to keep running will only prove that, as you say, we are going nowhere.
His points per match would condemn any other manager so let's not delay the inevitable, show him the door and try to get someone in who can work with this squad, a squad that does have talent but one that has been mismanaged to a degree that beggars belief. If relegated we will immediately lose Cunha, RAN, Andre, Gomes and Lima plus some who are approaching end of contract which will leave us with a squad barely able to be competitive in the Championship.
What are shambles we have become, every team must currently be looking forward to playing us because points are almost assured.

The point is regardless of who comes in, there isn't enough talent in our squad to be anything other than the aim of avoiding relegation each season. JL left for a reason , the hamster wheel doesn't stop when GON leaves lol, we will be having the same conversation in 2 years. The infrastructure at the club means anything else is inevitable.
