Match Thread: Wolves v A.F.C Bournemouth 30.11.2024 KO 3pm

What a win last week, absolutely terrific. So that is two wins on the bounce (both home and away), a four match unbeaten run, our opposition have lost two on the trot, it’s a home match at Molineux ……… what could possibly go wrong?!! Well, if anything should concentrate the mind, we’ve lost the previous two home premier league matches v The Cherries, both 0-1, the last in April during that monumental winless run in front of 25,541. Count – no – chickens!

Cunha continues to attract much attention in the press, not any wonder given his efforts this season, his attacking contribution being remarkable. Our goals for column stands at 20, just one behind Arsenal, and that is significantly down to Cunha who, it is said, is up for a contract extension – please let that be correct and sorted. GON has stated this week, they’ll be no sale of Cunha in January. Nevertheless this 4 match turn around is not just down to him, it’s been a team effort and another considerable reason is that we have recently shut up the shop (to a larger extent) at the back, including a make shift defensive line up last weekend – making the Fulham result more impressive.

With this in mind, what will GON do today? Reports state that Santi Bueno, Dawson and Johnstone are all back from injury and illness. Do they come in? Does that release Lemina into midfield, what’s the potential knock on for the likes of Andre and Bellegarde? It’s a tough one. This is a real situation where not changing a winning team may be the correct call, however does Lemina best serve in the back four and can you leave out our defensive leader Craig Dawson? A tough decision for the manager, but great to have a wider squad to chose from. Additionally, it must be noted that Toti has been stepping up to the mark as well.

For Bournemouth, they have no injury concerns and despite losing the last two, it must be remembered that they beat Man City recently which remains an achievement, something we were unable to do. They tend to do well versus sides at the bottom of the league as we sit precariously in 17th place. Additionally their manager, Andoni Iraola has a knack of making decisive and impactful substitutions, his replacements scoring 5 goals this season, so this should be a fixture likely to be contested to the 90th minute and beyond!

What I think we can expect is goals, hopefully at the right end of the pitch. I read that Wolves matches have amassed 48 goals so far this season, the most in the league! 20 goals for, at this stage, is the best since 1972/73, however our 28 conceded is the worst since 1983/84. As I have said, there are reasons to believe the goals against column ‘shouldn’t’ be advanced too much this afternoon. Famous last words!

All eyes to 3pm this afternoon. I am keeping everything crossed, not just for 3 points, but also that I will be able to follow proceedings a little more closely that the last few weeks. As always, enjoy the match and please leave your comments in the thread below.

3 wins in a row at stake, 3 more points to grab, Come on me babbies!!!

Same lineup as last week but a stronger bench should they be required.
Could be a good robust game with the way Bournemouth play so our lads need to keep their heads and try to avoid drawing any unnecessary cards.
Three points would be great.

Dreadfulttackle from Toti, penalty to Bournemouth

Klievert 1-0

What a disaster of a start

Good save from Sa. What a start from the opposition

But in a blink, great cross from Bellegarde and a Larsen header makes it 1-1

50 goals in our matches so far. Incredible

Utterly mad. Wolves 1-2 Bournemouth.

Good move on the left hand side, pass and then a shot, deflected slighted but importantly into the back of the net.

Another Sa save keeps the score at 1-2

And again, Wolves should be 1-3 down, a terrible finish from the Bournemouth lad there. Thank goodness

This is ridiculous

A very string claim for another Bournemouth penalty as Sa seems to kick the Bournemouth forward.

Looks a penalty to me, ref called to check.

Penalty given

Christmas has come very early for Bournemouth it seems.

Last 5 minutes we’ve been a bit more on the front foot but my word, what a mountain to climb

Wolves fans go up for a penalty as RGomes gets sandwiched but I don’t think it was.

No VAR review

We are looking to get forward to our credit but there are still gaps at the back

We are definitely committed to attacking football.

Good attacking run from RAN, cut down, results in a 25 minute Wolves free kick. Into injury time too, 8 minutes to add.

Cunha takes to fre kick but it was over the bar, very disappointing to be honest

Last kick of thr half, we have a free kick from the L wing position.

Cleared, HT whistles and a fair few but short lived boos

A first 20 minutes of utter chaos

3rd Bournemouth penalty. Appalling back pass from Dawson, Sacould do very little.

Awful, awful, self destructive football

Kliuvert to take it, hattrick penalty, goal.2-4.

Good grief.

Little to suggest we have another goal in us, although might be a fair bit of time to add

First ever hat trick of penalties since the invention of football in 1992 and similarly the first set of three penalties won against the same player, that’s Evanilson.

Still 2 minutes to go. Molineux now very empty

An utterly aimless cross from Forbs precedes the full time whistle and some half hearted boos and jeers.

A truly awful day at Molineux, exemplified by an, at times, cataclysmic defence.

Hats of the Bournemouth, they beat us fair and square.

Everton then West Ham next, both away. Bl00dy hell.

With some of the formations that GON comes up with and the bizarre substitutions I do have to wonder if he is relying too heavily on a fantasy football format. What isn't a fantasy is the ever increasing probability of our relegation.
Sleepwalking towards a disaster if big decisions aren't made soon.

Time for change enough is enough.
Kamikaze defending yet again.
Bournemouth gifted the game with 3 penalties which is ridiculous really.
O'Neil is tactilly clueless, the team were all over the place yet again.
No disrespect but this was Bournemouth and we made them look like world beaters.
This defence is clearly the worst one we have had in the Premier league and if we carry on conceding stupid goals it's going to end in one way.
Fosun need to get rid of this clueless clown he's simply not up to it.
Now we know why Bournemouth got rid!

He is ruining the potential within the squad with his team setup and comical substitutions.
