Match Thread: Wolves v Leeds United KO 3pm 20.09.2025

By Ivybridge Wolf
September 20 2025

With a 3pm kick off, Wolves host Leeds United today in could be considered a crucial match, even this early in the season. If Leeds win, they’ll be seven points ahead of Wolves, should Wolves get a vital victory, the gap is just one, the Old Gold will be off the mark and everyone would feel a little better.  Maybe Vitor could have a pint or two too?

There’ve been many tussles down the years, todays picture harks back to the classic 1972 encounter, Wolves winning, Doog with the vital second which handed the title to Derby. For me, amongst others, it takes me back to my ‘last stand’ on the South Bank in March 1990 and also to 2003/24 with the incredible Alan Smith own goal. Wolves won both of those games!

The reality is Wolves are winless in their last four Premier League meetings with Leeds United, however Wanderers record against newly promoted sides is decent, winning eight of the last 10. The problem is Wolves have recorded their first ever four match losing streak at the start of any season, hardly the way to inspire confidence. On that point, it was noted that midweek, Wolves were advertising tickets for this game at £30.

On the positive, defeats have been coming only by the odd goal (admittedly with some less than impressive performances) and should they be able to cut out the defensive errors, the optimists might see that as a potential platform. This is not unreasonable as Leeds have not scored since beating Everton in the first weekend of the season, and this coupled with the fewest shots on target and any other side! Cause for more even optimism?

As for the team, Arokodare and Krejcí both started last week in Newcastle, perhaps they will get the nod again? The good news is that Strand Larsen is available though is not ready for 90 minutes, so on that basis likely to start on the bench. It is equally good news he has signed a contract extension to keep him at Wolves until 2030 …… or whenever another side invokes a transfer payment clause!!

Talking of new contracts, Vitor will be pleased with his employment status too with his new deal, and so will many Wolves fans, though with a similar arrangement last season with Gary O’Neil is bound to raise a few eyebrows! One can only surmise clauses to cater for parting of ways is fully covered?

Good luck to the lads today. We desperately need a win, it’s as much of a must win at this stage of the season as any match can be. We need more creativity and combined with effort in front of our own fans, and perhaps a little luck, everything crossed for three points.

Enjoy the match, please leave your thought and comments in the thread in the usual way!

UTW!

Looking forward to our first three points, nothing less will do and we need to take full advantage of the newly promoted teams or we will regret it later in the season. Hopefully VP will set up the team to be adventurous and get at Leeds from the start and maintain the pressure for the full 90 minutes rather than falling back to defend. Like to see Fer Lopes start, he brings some flair and vision and Arias needs to show us what he can bring to the party.
Cmon lads.

It’s a damp afternoon at Molineux

Four changes today. Lopez gets a start Lupy!

I’d forgotten Calvert Lewin was at Leeds until earlier in the week.Mary Hopkins rings out of the tannoys, those were the days and we’re off

Leeds calve the Wolves like a knife through butter, but no Leeds man there to tap the ball in the net.

Another good ball from Gudmanson cuts the defence open but well cleared by Toti.

A quiet spell for Wolves

Hopeful ball in the box, Sa dithers giving Calvert Lewin the time and space to score with a header. Not great Centre half play either. Good finish but another error from the defence.

Free kick, 27 yards, Stach pile drives in the top right hand corner. Sa beaten despite his standing position being good.

Leeds don’t score this season …… except versus us.

Exceptionally disappointing for Wolves who have gone flat after our opener

Listening to the commentary but at 3-1 down and what seems like an abject performance I've decided to do something more productive.
What a season this is going to be!!!!

53 minutes gone. Still 1-3.

Wolves giving it a bit of a go but nothing offering sustained trouble to the Leeds defence.

Arokadare nods down, Munetsi shoots but well saved. That’s a good chance.

Lupy is correct, far more productive things to do than watch this car crash. A Chinese owner giving a Portugese manager an extension for the worst start to a season in the history of the club with a starting 11 which sounds more like a terrorist watch list than an English team. Hard not to laugh - VP prob has a pay rise and further extension lined up if we finish bottom

Bueno decent cross, Mosquera header but comfortably saved.

I’d say this half, given the circumstances is pretty lacklustre to be honest. We don’t look up to it in attack, sadly.

Wonder what Pererira thinks after his new contract?

Outside shout for a penalty as Harrison controls the ball with his upper arm / shoulder. Not being reviewed.

FT

Wolves 1-3 Leeds United.

Huf and puff in the second half. No real idea how to fashion a goal when seeking the come back, no where near enough quality up front or midfield. Defensive frailties killed us too. A familiar story.

So we advance our unwanted record, five matches on the bounce at the start of the season.

L L L L L

No pints for Vito to celebrate his new contract.

Overall, not good enough.

I'm afraid this club has Relegation written all over it.
No style of play, No Fight and No clue.
I like vitor but to give him a new contract with how we are performing is crazy, but that's jeff shi all over isn't it.
Well done fosun in killing my club!
Selling the Best players has finally caught up with Fosun, but we all knew it was a matter of time.
Sad times.

Fair play to Leeds, they were the better side and deserved the win but we made them look like World beaters. We're awful. Krejci was the only one with anything about him. I don't want to be too harsh on Arokadare with it being only his second match, but he needs to do more than that. Hopefully he comes good. Jeff and Fosun have been far from perfect lately but they don't pick the team. I was speaking to someone in the week who said they hadn't given Vitor the tools to do the job. I don't know what bl00dy job he was talking about. He hasn't got the tools to win the League but surely we have enough to have picked up two or three points from five matches. Yet another goal down to Agbadou, how he keeps his place is a total mystery. Doherty has been our best defender so far, not saying much with the way Agbadou and Toti have been playing but he has been our best defender, and he's not even on the bench. Bueno is the only one capable of occasionally putting over a good cross and he's left out of the starting line-up, and that's after being played on the right last week. I was happy to see Lopez start, I've been wanting that since seeing him in pre-season, but sadly he didn't really take his chance. I'm not saying Vitor should be sacked or replaced at the moment but that's now nine League matches with no wins, one draw and eight defeats and with Tottenham away and Brighton up next it could quite easily get worse. If this was under O'Neil we would quite rightly be fuming. Hopefully Everton will put out their youth team in the Cup on Tuesday and then we might beat them on penalties.
