Match Thread: Spurs v Wolves 8pm KO 27.09.25
The first of many?

In the last three seasons, Wolves have won four and drawn one of the six matches with today’s opponents, Tottenham Hotspur. In fact in the last four games at Spurs, Wanderers have lost only one. My word, how Wolves could do with some of the winning feeling today, even a draw to get us going would help!
This encounter at Spurs’ magnificent football ground kicks off at 8pm, for many a ridiculous time for any number of reasons. Wolves will undoubtedly need a repeat of the Everton midweek endeavour and take the game to a Spurs side which sat third in the table prior to this afternoons fixtures. Their only defeat so far was at home to Bournemouth and have seen a greater togetherness since Frank took over as manager. At home, they’ll be a force and against an otherwise beleaguered Wolves away team, they are hot favourites with the bookies.
Do Wolves have any chance of winning this? Nobody appears to think so, however there is always a chance in football and there were some good individual performances in the last couple of matches to point towards. Krejci and H Bueno featured well in an otherwise disastrous match versus Leeds United and there were a number of other decent performances in the cup, Johnstone, Arokodare (or Tolu, whatever …. a great finish), Andre and Krejci again. We even witnessed a collector’s item of a Munetsi goal which was dispatched impressively. Whilst we remain underdogs, Wolves do have a squeak.
One thing that will have a large bearing in team selection. Given the evidence, the Agbadou / Toti pairing needs a break, Agbadou would be my choice for the bench. Perhaps The Doc could be shoe horned into a position, the Mick McCarthy signing looked comfortable on Tuesday despite his progressing years. Will Krejci be a centre half or midfielder? Maybe Vitor will revert back to a three centre halves for Spurs, he intimated as much in his pre match interview. Could Andre be back with Joao in midfield? In that interview, Pereira said Strand Larsen wasn’t up to 90 minutes, so it seems likely Hwang and Tolu could start, though it would be interesting to see Larsen and Tolu on the pitch together. Plenty of choices for our manager, though one change I’d definitely make afer Leeds is Johnstone for Sa, I felt the Portuguese had a hand (or not as the case may be) in all three Leeds goals, whether it be speed of movement or positional sense.
Enjoy the match, I really hope that we do enjoy he match instead of some of the predictions, though Chris Sutton has gone for a tight 1-0 to Spurs. Irrespective of the opposition, the atmosphere, the ground, the time of day, the form, we have to get our season going and playing Brighton (who have just beaten Chelsea at Stamford Bridge) next week, it ay going to get any easier. Has any side lost their first six games and survived the drop? I don’t think so.
I’ll be down the pub again tonight with the Ivybridge crew, seven of us were sufficiently motivated to watch our win over the Toffees, with any luck we, indeed all Wolves fans, can have an unexpectedly positive experience this evening - we really, really need it.

You couldn't see spurs scoring 2nd half but it only takes one chance.
Shame but hopefully something to build on.
So many great performances tonight, I’d give our MOTM to Santi Bueno who obviously scored the goal but his defensive effort tonight was extremely good. If we play like that then we’ll be alright but of course there is such a long way to go. Reasons to be cheerful, let’s hope so. Irrespective, we have a point on the board, onwards and upwards.
