Match Thread: Sunderland v Wolves 3pm KO 18.10.25

After the international break where England qualified for next years World Cup and a period when many Wolves players were called up to international duty, it’s back to the premier league action this weekend. Wolves make the journey up to the North East for their first fixture of any kind versus Sunderland since May 2018 when the Black Cats beat Nuno’s Championship winning side 3-0 on the last day of the season! Indeed this will be the first premier league clash since April 2012 in our depressing relegation year with poor old Terry Conner at the helm, a match at the Stadium of Light which ended Wolves’ seven match losing streak – the final score being 0-0!
No doubt Vitor will be assessing all of his returning players for fitness and during his news conference, he indicated Bellegarde and Hwang are doubts with Strand Larsen still experiencing pain with his ongoing Achilles problem. Looking back over the last two games, we player better overall but failed to convert the one point into all three which we vitally need to get us out of the mess we are in. I will make a guess that Vitor will want to get as close as possible to the line ups versus Brighton / Spurs for this clash, which have at least has made some progress. Pereira will maintain his seat pitch side as his disciplinary for his sending off last game is still to be heard (he has said sorry by the way!).
Like all matches now, Wolves have to target all three points against a Sunderland side who sit 9th in the table (P& W3 D2 L2) bucking the recent trend of promoted teams doing badly following promotion. Within that run they have won two and drawn one of their three home matches, however I believe Wolves should approach this match with hope of a victory. Though beware, Wolves need to create far more chances and just get more telling shots than we’ve seen up till now especially bearing in mind their keeper Robin Roefs, has been in great form recently.
Once again, advanced apologies as I will not be able to contribute to the match thread for this game due to prior commitments, however I invite all contributors to add thoughts and comments to this thread pre, peri and post match!!
Good luck to the lads, hoping for our first three points (again)! Could this be the day we actually get going whilst other sides are still in sight?

Cmon lads, today is the day to turn this season around.
I'm sure I will find out the results some time later today or tomorrow.Blame whoever you want, The manager, the players or jeff shi and fosun, This club is sadly going down this season.
There's no plan, no fight and no idea how to win a game of football.
This lot would struggle in the championship.
I think they will give vitor the burnley game after the stupid decision to give him a new contract.
Win or bust for him next week, but will yet another new manager be able to change anything with this current squad of awful players?
He's had his best players sold and replaced with obviously inferior players.
Sadly for him jeff shi will want someone to blame.
I get fed up of saying it but I think we all know the mess this club is in now is down to shi and fosun.
Yet another depressing match of the day tonight.

At this point in the season we should not be worrying about the threat of relegation, but we are, and so will the players. If we face up to Sunderland with intent then we could get something out of this match, conversely, if we are too timid and passive this game could easily pass us by and the alarm bells will ringing loudly.
Cmon lads, today is the day to turn this season around.

Sadly I have cancelled my plans to get to Molineux next Sunday, it’s all a bit at the moment and the thought of the M5 and another poor Wolves performance is not enticing. Week after week, we are subjected to a side that cannot win. The draws at Spurs and v Brighton raised my spirits more in hope I think, but yesterday’s result was not good and the manner (from reports) of the defeat appears even worse.Having said that, I will try and get up before Christmas, it’s my personal Pavlov’s dog response.
Another dreadful start to the season, such performances cannot go unpunished and whilst Chairman Shi may think we can get out of jail for the second season on the trot, eventually the Fosun strategy will fall down. When our chairman says (to paraphrase) don’t expect Wolves to win things, nobody thought he meant it literally, from match to match. Just as well we played in those tepid colours yesterday and it’s possible nobody thought it was Wolves playing? Sorry Fosun, don’t think you’ll be shifting many away shirts though.
Since the famous six match winning run, it’s P12 W0 D3 L9. Oh the joy of it all.
