Match Thread: Chelsea v Wolves 8pm KO 08.11.25
Another 3-4 today?

In pure footballing terms, It is becoming increasingly difficult to write something different each week when I’m considering these match previews. Write preview, say how many games since we last won (it’s 14), hope for the best, Wolves lose and repeat next week! A sinking feeling, a feeling of inevitable relegation, wondering what on earth will happen next?! Today’s reality is Wolves are at Stamford Bridge, playing Chelsea with a massive uphill task to contemplate even getting at point. But could the renaissance start here?
Off the pitch, Wolves fans wait with baited breath as to who Fosun appoint to the potential managerial chalice. The on-off news about Rob Edwards appears to have developed into something more realistically possible in the last 24 hours, but let’s see. He’s a decent chap, a manager with a reasonable record with Luton and Boro in the championship, and experience with Luton in the premier league, unlucky in my opinion to be relegated, especially with some of the football they played.
But what of today? James Collins is in charge to cover for the departed Vitor Pereira who just had to go, even with the shackles of Fosun. What will Collins do with selection, who knows, although the Doc and Rodrigo are injured, and he has commented that the team has been tinkered so often that it lost its continuity and shape. Perhaps we will see Joao Gomes and Andre return to the starting line up?
Many will had read Wolves have become the first ever side in top flight history to fail to win in their first 10 matches in consecutive seasons, yes, we love breaking records! It’s obvious we need points now, we need about 38 from our last 28 games. Is that possible? Is it likely, particularly looking at our remaining fixtures in 2025 alone?
Just a short while ago Wolves played Chelsea in the league cup in a very entertaining tie. Wolves lost 3-4 however with both sides very different today and that will make things much trickier today and we’ve one match at their place in the premier league era.
Whilst Wolves fans will face this 8pm evening fixture with low expectation and trepidation, it is certain our supporters will be wishing James Collins well and the team all the very best to try and start to reverse fortunes.
As mentioned, this match kicks off at 8pm and being shown live on Sky and I will sharing the experience with my Ivybridge Wolves crowd in the boozer. A few pints of Proper Job will hopefully easy the pain (or maybe heighten the joy?).

Team selection will be interesting and maybe a chance of a cameo appearance for one or more of the youngsters.

Thanks Andy, it’s a case of having to writing more doom and gloom! 😂 One day it’ll change. Forgot about the Agbadou red card, a blessing for Collins to make his impact on the back 4 or more likely 5.
Probably the biggest note to mention is that Joao and Angre both get the nod.

Good first half for Wolves
We are so bad all over the pitch its untrue.
Totally outclassed all game im afraid.
Edwards has got his work cut out getting a tune out of this lot and please I never want to see chan in a wolves shirt again, hes been useless for 2 seasons and getting worse if that's possible and larsen aint much better.
We are going for Derbys Record by the look of it and it wouldn't surprise me if these cowards break it.
Frustrated!
We have no pace, no cutting edge, no menace up front and despite having a few decent moments we never looked like scoring. Ironically, all our pace is at the back. All too often we still look to come backwards when we have an opportunity.
What is Edwards coming too? He’s got to have his eyes wide open because at the moment we are looking at a manager who can stabilise and seek a bit of positivity next year …. in the championship. Relegation is surely inevitable.
Good luck to whoever takes the reins because this horse has bolted.
