Match Thread: Wolves v Chelsea KO 3pm 07.02.2026

Wolves find themselves with a second consecutive Molineux 3pm fixture this weekend, the last Saturday 3pm kick off scheduled until April. Last week was another disappointing performance and result versus Bournemouth, this week it’s Chelsea. It is not getting any easier. Wolves have won three and lost three of their last six league Chelsea fixtures, the sad news is that they have lost all of the last three with an aggregate score of 12-3 to Chelsea. Additionally, there’s a 4-3 home league cup defeat versus the Blues to consider earlier in the season. On top of everything, Chelsea have been wounded by Arsenal midweek and looking to get their recent improved form back on the rails. Realistically, this is going to be an incredibly hard match for Wolves.
Some things can change at Molineux, now with two fresh faces in the squad as the yawn-some transfer window closed. With an eye firmly on championship football come August two Englishmen, Angel Gomes and Adam Armstrong have arrived, the former midfielder on loan from Marseille and Armstrong from Saints (after a loan spell last season with WBA). Both players could very well be in (at least) the squad to play Chelsea, with Edwards heaping praise and hope on them during his Friday press conference, stating they both have something to prove. Hopefully at 5’8”, Armstrong will be able to form an effective front partnership the 6’6” Arokodare!!
Of course, Jorgen Strand Larsen has gone down the M40 to join Crystal Palace, and on present form, the £48M fee represents a coup for Wolves, fans hoping that the cash will be redirected to more new players come the end of May. Edwards also said that Agbadou is close to joining Besiktas, and Arias may well leave for Palmeiras in Brazil imminently after a bid has been accepted. Agbadou joined last January with a sequence of highly impressive performances which seemed to completely evaporate when this season started, though his form has definitely improved of late. Arias arrived with a blaze of headlines of his top-quality ability which frankly, despite a few glimpses, never materialised in an Old Gold shirt, a bit of a flop it must be said.
The Wolves team is likely to change with the new lads and Krejci is back for selection after a bout of flu. One hopes the side will be more cohesive than last week, let’s face it, we haven’t scored a league goal since Mane’s strike at Everton and only four in our last seven Molineux games. Irrespective of our plight, Chelsea, currently fifth in the league, present many key dangers in personnel and a team seeking their fourth consecutive league victory under the stewardship of Liam Rosenoir.
Good luck to the lads, whoever plays, I wish them well for a variety of reasons! You will see that this match thread has been published early this week, this is because it’s my birthday tomorrow (a day I share with Mick McCarthy, albeit 9 years younger!) and have decided to celebrate (or otherwise) in a North Bank seat come 3pm. Oh for an upset?!! COMB!!
Finally, a slightly unusual way to finish off today. James Milner, now 40 years old, 24 years into his career across a number of very good clubs, will equal the record for most Premier League appearances should he plays for Brighton versus Crystal Palace on Sunday. Currently he has 652 appearances, not to mention 61 caps and an array of silverware, including the Champions league. For me, he has been a model professional, worked hard at his vocation and whilst often in the background has maintained an elevated level of motivation, skill and ability and a true team player. I hope he equals the record, if not tomorrow, soon, and then goes on to beat it. He is a credit to football.

Well he wouldn’t be alone.
Anyway they put up a good second half , mostly. Kept giving the ball away but usually in pursuit of attacking play and both the new players did well, Angel coming off with cramp.
It’s amazing they remain so positive and although you just know this isn’t their best and that the “better” players are likely looking for their next gigs, it’s nice to see the back of Larsen.
Maybe Fosun have learned something and their/our last season in the championship will be similar to the next one. I have dark, dark, doubts especially seeing the child Shi.
What should have been a routine belting of a lower division team now become the height of our aspirations 😎
Truly awful defending for both penalties but we have seen this rubbish all season.
Not sure that starting line up was right yet again for me.
Thought Angel looked decent on the ball and Armstrong looked what he is championship quality.
Oh and the invisible man chan went off injured 2nd half, let's hope hes out for the rest of the season.
Roll on the end of this Dreadful season.

It was only a decent 2nd half as Chelsea had the game won. There's no advantage to them winning 6-0 or 3-1 and we've seen the "improved 2nd half" from Wolves many, many times this season normally when the game's done.
We started the match so positively , and on that basis the first penalty was incredibly frustrating because it was against the run of play . The second penalty was like rubbing salt in the wound and from where I was sitting it looked harsh. I haven’t yet seen the highlights but I am led to believe both penalty decisions were correct, fair enough.
What was troubling was how the teams higher energy start completely disappeared after the first penalty , just like someone flicked a switch . The first two goals also silenced a really positive and supportive Molineux crowd. The third invoked loads of people leaving for a drink and the loos. They’ve seen it all before .
Second half, as said, the match had gone, but at least Wolves played much better and of course we scored a deserved goal, winning the half, and a wonderful effort from range from Mane, smashing the left hand post. If that had gone in, maybe it would have made a match of it, however clearly the best side win. Cole Palmer is a terrific player.
By the full time whistle Molineux was close to being empty and that was that. 1-3.
A trip to the City Ground on Wednesday . What are our chances there I wonder?!
