The enforced Wolves 25 day barren spell

Here we are, twiddling our thumbs and fingers with an enforced period without Wolves playing a game of football - who needs a winter break when we experience such football inflicted interuption? What would the so called 'big six' say, obviously being outside the group, Wolves have no voice? We find ourselves in the seventh day of this unprecedented 25 day break, partly down to last weekends Arsenal fixture being advance to 18th February, next week the now inevitable international break and then Easter without any premier league matches being played. No football for 25 days, ridiculous!

Anyway, all this made me wonder when other similar enlongated periods of no football during a 'live' season has previously happened. Obviously there was the Covid break from to March to June 2020, however after that, you have to go back to 1962/63 season when the 'Big freeze' UK winter put the fixture list into chaos as well as the UK in general from December 1962 through to March 1963 - far more genuine reasons for postponements!

The current 25 day spell was beaten comfortable during this winter. After we played Manchester City at Maine road on 15th December 1962, Wolves were not able to  play until 19th January 1963, a remarkable period of 35 days without football, when we drew 0-0 with Sheffield United. Just think, 35 days of nothing and a 0-0 draw! In reality, the weather must have still been grim as only 10,484 attended! After that our FA Cup match versus Forest was postponed three times before eventually being played on 29th January - Wolves lost!

Of course, this current lapse of Wolves matches may be welcome to many, that's understood, but in comparison to the events in 1962/63, wow, how things and attitudes to fixture priorities have changed!
