It has often been asked how
Wolves will be able to replace captain Paul Ince when he hangs up
his boots. At 37 the Wolves skipper is the backbone of the whole
side and Wolves look a poor excuse of a side when the former England
man is missing. On Saturday that was the case and Chief Executive Jez Moxey took the brunt of the fans frustrations as Wolves failed to show any passion or desire. The shape was non-existent, the passing was poor and it took Wolves more than twenty minutes to have a single shot on target. The first half was shocking and trying to pick the highlights from it become near impossible. Nigerian International Seyi George Olofinjana came closest to opening the scoring, but his shot was still tame and easily claimed by Banks in the Gills goal. The supporters were frustrated and the 25,000 fans chanted "Early Bird, Your Having A Laugh", a reference to the price increase in the ticket prices announced by the club earlier this week. Three fans missed the chance to win £100,000 each in a half-time competition as the snow started to fall and fans sat bemused by the Wolves' lacklustre start. The general consensus at half time was that the performance would improve in the second half. Sadly however, it got worse. Just ten minutes into the second half and Gillingham took the lead. Colin Cameron appeared to play the whole Gillingham midfield onside and Henderson netted from close range. The goal incensed Wolves fans who again turned on Chief Executive Jez Moxey. However this time it wasn't a chant regarding ticket prices. Instead fans took their frustration out on Moxey himself. "We want Moxey out", "Stand up if you hate Moxey" and "Where's the money gone?" were all sang in the general direction of the directors box. Luckily for Wolves, Gillingham fell asleep at the back. Edwards crossed the ball into the area and leading scorer Kenny Miller headed home from close range. Surely the performance would get better now the fans thought. They were wrong again. Wolves continued to show a lack of desire a lack of skill and any type of interest and it was no surprise to see Gillingham take the lead in the 90th minute. The goal had more than a whiff of offside about it, but Flynn made no mistake with the finish, neatly lifting the ball over Oakes and into the net. Wolves were staring defeat in the face, but Substitute Leon Clarke prodded home from close range to win a point from the home side. It's a sad state of affairs at Molineux and there now appears to be no chance of a Play-Off finale. Full Time - Wolves 2-0 Gillingham
