Four-Star Wolves Thrash Crewe - Report

MATCH REPORT | CREWE 1-4 WOLVES | After five straight draws Wolves finally marked their recent form with a win. Four goals scored, the customary one conceded and now just one defeat in fourteen for Glenn Hoddle's men.

Wolves moved to within just eight points of the play-offs after a four-star showing at The Alexandra Stadium on Saturday. Two goals each from Kenny Miller and Carl Cort handed Wolves the win, but it could have been many more.

Crewe boss Dario Gradi admitted to the press that his side had been "outclassed" for the 90 minutes as Wolves made it 8 games without defeat.

It wasn't all easy for Wolves however. After dominating the first ten minutes, Carl Cort controlled the ball in the area and referee N Miller pointed to the spot.

Kenny Lunt made no mistake with the spot-kick which was only taken once, to  the delight of the traveling fans who were put through the shambles of a thrice-taken penalty at Derby three days prior.

Cark Cort was the man in the wrong for the penalty but he made amends two minutes later. There was no arm in sight when he was in the opposite box and he tapped home Seol's cross to level the scores.

Wolves had to wait just 22 minutes for their next goal. Paul Ince was sent tumbling following an Olofinjana through-ball and Kenny Miller slotted the penalty home. Miller taking the penalty in the absence of Kevin Cooper.

On the stroke of half time Cort put the game beyond doubt. This time he tapped in, again from close range, from a long and deep Lee Naylor cross.

Crewe started the second half the brighter, but Wolves were still a threat. Hoddle was given a scare when Miller went down with cramp, but the Scot wiped the fear away with a goal two minutes later.

Ki-Hyeon Seol worked his way into the box, played the ball back to Miller and the Scottish International fired the ball into the net to cap off the scoring.

The Wolves fans chanted "We're going to draw 4-4" late on, but there was no draw in sight. Crewe were dead and buried and Hoddle took one little step closer to the Play-Offs.
