Former boss Jones lashes out at Sir Jack

WOLVERHAMPTON Wanderers have reacted angrily to comments made by Cardiff City boss Dave Jones over the weekend. The former Wolves boss lashed out at his former employees on the fifth anniversary of his appointment.

Jones was sacked 14 months ago as manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers after a run of poor results which was capped off by losing to a ten man Gillingham side. However the now Cardiff City boss has come close to breaking his confidentiality clause which he signed when he agreed a compensation package with the club after his departure.

In an interview which was first published by The Sunday Times and today lifted into an article in the Wolverhampton addition of the Express and Star, Jones lashes out at Sir Jack Hayward and claims the club was stuck in a time warp.

Jones - who lead Wolves to Promotion in Cardiff back in 2003 - first said Wolves were "not worth talking about", but later added "I fulfilled their expectations, I gave them Promotion but they didn't live up to mine".

The paper claims that Jones says he was promised a £25M budget when Wolves won promotion, however he was given only £5M. "You would have to ask them why that happened" Said Jones.

Then came the attack on the then Wolves Chairman Sir Jack Hayward, who's £15M Jones spent during the famous humiliating collapse back in the 2002 "I'm quite an easy person to get on with but I don't suffer fools and I locked horns with Sir Jack. What was he like? When I had done a deal to get Paul Merson, he would not let me sign him because he had never heard of him".

The final part of the rant is where Jones accuses the club of being like a "time warp". Jones continued "Wolves were like a time warp. Steve Bull and Billy Wright were great servants in their time, but they couldn't help me. In fact, they hindered me because of the constant comparisons.

Wolves Chief Executive Jez Moxey was understandably angry with the comments and told the Clubs official website "We will consider how best to address this and the article's unfair criticisms and inaccuracies".
