Wolves miss the chance to sneak into 6th spot.

WOLVES missed the chance to move into the top six after a 0-0 draw away at Queens Park Rangers. Both Aliadiere and Cort were denied by brilliant Paul Jones saves whilst Lee Naylor was lucky to see his handball in the area go unnoticed.

With Preston's game with Ipswich being called off due to a frozen pitch a win would have seen Wolves leapfrog the side from Deepdale into sixth space with Preston having two games in hand over Glenn Hoddles men.

Unfortunately a point was all Wolves could muster after another lacklustre performance. The Wolves boss named the same side which beat Hull City 3-2 a week ago but this game was nothing like the action packed game at the KC Stadium seven days prior.

Wolves dominated the opening exchanges without really testing the Wolves keeper. Darren Anderton caused the Welsh International in the QPR goal the biggest problem in the first half. The former England International collected the ball on the edge of the area and his half volley was on target but hit straight at an impressive Paul Jones playing for the hoops after his contract at Molineux had been terminated.

After dominating the first 20 minutes the final 25 of the half was much more even with Rangers getting a foothold into the game. Postma however was pretty untroubled with Gallen's header wide mid way through the half being a rare opportunity for the home side.

The second half was similar to the first with only two real talking points. The first was a penalty shout for the home side which boss Glenn Hoddle admitted after the game was "a bit of good fortune" for his side.

Lee Naylor appeared to allow the ball to hit his hand from a deep cross but luckily for the full back both the referee and the well placed linesman failed to spot it and signalled a corner rather than the correct decision of a penalty.

If that was to be a let off for Wolves then the chances Wolves missed during one move late in the game was a let off for the home side. The move involved all three strikers with Celtic bound Kenny Miller collecting the ball on the left. His deep run and cross towards Ince was left to roll by the Wolves captain to an unmarked Aliadiere who's shot was well saved by Jones, however the rebound fell to Cort and the former Newcastle man controlled his ball before seeing his powerful shot tipped onto the post by the former Wolves keeper when it looked easier to score.

It was a chance that needed to be taken but on reflection a point each was probably a fair result. Wolves face both Stoke and Cardiff at Home in the next seven days and a return of six points would make today's result look like a good one.
