Hoddle Defiant As Preston Win

WOLVES hopes of finishing in amongst the play off places took a huge blow tonight as Preston North End saw of Crewe at Deepdale, a 37th minute Ormerod strike was enough for injury-hit Preston.

Wolves boss Glenn Hoddle had hoped Crewe could do Wolves a favour by getting a result against Preston at Deepdale tonight, but with Wolves unable to help themselves in what has so far been yet another season of underachievement, a result from the leagues bottom placed side was never going to come.

All teams in and around the play off places have now played 40 games, with Preston in 6th place, 5 points ahead of Wolves and with a goal difference eleven goals better than Glenn Hoddle's men.

However despite the result Hoddle - who prior to this season claimed Wolves would be gunning for the Championship - is still optimistic and believes a play off place for his side is still in reach.

Speaking to the clubs official website, prior to tonight's game, Hoddle said "..there's still a play-off place to chase.

  "Even Crystal Palace lost at the weekend so there's everything to play for. I've always thought that sixth spot would go down to the wire and it looks like ourselves, Preston and Cardiff are fighting for it."

The result means Wolves must win at Plymouth on Saturday whilst Preston travel to C oventry and Cardiff City travel to Southampton.
