The reasons behind Hoddle's resignation....

WOLVES Chief Executive Jez Moxey today faced the media at Molineux to explain the reasons behind Glenn Hoddle's decision to resign from the Managers position with immediate effect.

Jez Moxey explained to a packed press conference on Tuesday afternoon how he was disturbed from a Saturday outing with the family by Glenn Hoddle who told him he wished to resign as manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers with immediate effect.

The Chief Executive was on a lake with his Children on West Park an hour before England played Portugal in the World Cup when Hoddle called him and broke the news.

However, following a meeting between Hoddle and Moxey, the Wolves Chief Executive was able to announce to the media the exact reason behind the former England Managers shock departure.

Hoddle put his resignation down down to two reasons, describing both as important as each other.

Reason one:

Jez Moxey explains:  "The first reason was his concern over the budget and whether he could do what we wanted him to with the money available, but when Glenn signed his contract 12 months ago it was made clear then that if we did not win promotion, because of the loss of parachute money and a likely fall in season ticket sales, the budget going into this season would have to be reduced. He was told we would have to sell players and he was aware of the situation with Joleon Lescott.

  "On April 10, when reaching the play-offs was mathematically impossible, we sat down and discussed financial realities. We had another meeting on April 20, the board meeting on May 2 and another meeting the day after that. At no time did anything I had said on April 10 change."

Reason two:

"The other reason he gave was that he said in himself he did not feel 100 per cent behind the job." said Moxey.

The Wolves Chief Executive also gave the views of the club to the media: "Our view is that we would have preferred him to have done it at the May board meeting. He accepted that but said he did not feel the way he does now at that time.

"I told him we were disappointed and angry but I accept his version of events. Despite what some might think, our relationship has been a strong and positive one.

"He told me he has not had any other (job) offers. That is something we will address if it happens."

* Jez Moxey revealed there were already 25 candidates for the Manager Job, with 5 of them being serious contenders.
