India wins tri-series in Lanka

India has won the tri-series between New Zealand, Sri Lanka, and India held in Sri Lanka.

That India were able to win this tri-series in Lanka, where Lanka is always a favorite regardless of the opposition, is creditable.

However, the ICC ranking proved once again its reputation as a nonsensical system as India became the number 1 team in the world after an early round win, was toppled to number 3 after an inconsequential loss in the middle of the series, and remains at number 3 even after winning the tournament.

Sachin Tendulkar demonstrated that he is still among the best in the world after 20 years of international cricket, with a brilliant century in the final to seal the series. Mahendra Dhoni, meanwhile, has become the winningest ODI India captain in his short stint so far.

Nonsensical is the RIGHT word for the ICC ranking system...

How can a team after WINNING a tournament have lower ranking than during the tournament...

It is almost like the tournament never occured...

They should stop updating every match and should start updating every fortnightly (or even weekly ).........

Maybe... but the point is that the rolling ranking system is supposed to be updated every match...

What I don't understand is how you could have a higher rank for winning a game but lower after you win the Cup..

That is just messed up...

^ You can look at the rankings after every series smiling smiley

That way you would have missed the 2 day joy of India being the no.1 team

^ Well, unlike you I don't need a funny ranking system to tell me that India are arguably the best ODI team in the world. Just watching Sri Lanka hammer "No1" South Africa is enough. I mean this is the same SL team that Dhoni and his boys thrashed to win the Compaq Cup...that too in SL's own backyard smiling smiley

I would say that this is an incredible win by India - as both the team SL and NZ who are 2 of the toughest teams in CT group got beaten by India

This must be the toughest toruny that India won comfortably

lol
