Sehwag The Magnificent

What can one say?... Owner of the highest individual score by an Indian in Tests and ODIs.  The most feared batsman in the world.  A force of nature. 

The day before the 4th ODI in Indore the popular cricket website Cricinfo had a headline that said "A Worried India look to snuff out West Indian resurgence".  Well they got one thing right... India sure did snuff out the West Indies resurgence (never mind that it was West Indies' first win on their tour to India, some resurgence that) that's for sure.

I don't know who they were talking to, or what they were smoking, when they concocted that headline, but the last thing one would attribute to Veeru is that he is a worrier.  In fact, if there is a batsman who is most Zen like in his total non-concern of the previous delivery, it has to be the Nawaab of Najafgadh. 

With this monumental knock, Sehwag has once again silenced the nattering nabobs of negativity, found in abundance on the website mentioned above, while serving notice on the Australians that unless they are at their best they are in for a torrid time. 

For the Indian fan who knows a bit of his cricket history, the fact that Sehwag's epic innings occurred at Holkar Stadium in Indore will be doubly fitting as it is the home of India's first mighty smiter of the cricket ball, the legendary C.K. Nayudu.  And the words that the erstwhile ruler of Holkar about the great C.K. would apply to Sehwag the Magnificent too.  "I may be the ruler of Indore, but he is the King of outdoor sports".

..has discovred his ominous touch right before the Aus tour

Congrats Sehwag ... merciless innings ... more uppercuts than Mohammed Ali ...Windies probably felt like they were punched by Ali!!!

and India get their highest ODI total ever....finishing at 418.....and that will also take some getting.

good work-out...NOW Sehwag and GG and Ashwin can all go to Australia....no need to waste time playing the 5th ODI.

we need to see Pathan, play the last game

If Pathan wasn't going to play why was he even called up?

^actually it is good that he didn't play.. otherwise there were chances that he would have got tonked on this track and people would have jumped to conclusion too soon.. anyone who says Pathan is kept out deliberately by a particular "someone" must be on weed..

Intresting to see that on PATTA track... Raina comes in at No. 3...

OK, so it may have been to preserve lefty-righty combo...but still does seem that he can only succeed on PATTA wickets...and with ball nice and old...

Congrats Sehwag for record double tons, and great to see he kept playing his natural game.

Mithun deserved a chance, as Pathan had got several.

Sehwag is a Tiger on Flat Tracks & a Failure on bouncy pacy wickets.

He can belt bowlers all day long on Flat Tracks - a classic FTB.

That being said, the part about the ridiculous headlines in crapinfo is spot-on.

The West Indians - who have forgotten about cricket - got a taste of what their own Viv Richards must have been like.

I have no doubt he will carry on the good work in Australia. Remember he knocked up a double ton on the opening day of a Test against Brett Lee and company at their fastest, on Gabba no less (IIRC).

It was at the MCG in the 3rd Test... What a MAGNIFICENT knock that was... got out on 195 going for a 6 to get to his double hundred... if he hadn't got out... I am sure India would have come home with the series...

That was the match where Ganguly came ahead of a totally out of form Sachin "protecting" him...smiling smiley

Yeah...200 in ODI...was something we expected from him...not Tendulkar...who hardly has more than a couple of 200s even in Tests...
