Speeding

An ode to the finest batsman I ever saw: Tribute from a fan to a cricketing legend who, over the years, has inspired us with sheer class, both on-field and off.

batting
is like speeding
in many ways.
when you're young
and curly haired
and think nothing
of cruising
at one hundred miles per hour
on the outside lane.
as the years pass
you start to dodge
and you start to nudge
and they start to fudge
and the nerves start to wither
your mind starts to dither.
you know you can rev it up
with the best
in your formula one motor car
but why speed
when you can coast
but then again
you might just crash and burn
anyhow.
