Alexander has been omitted from the Scotland squad for their forthcoming games. The City 'keeper got excited when his name was put on the provisional squad list, but Berti Vogts went for Paul Gallacher instead.

Alexander was hoping to play in Scotland's forthcoming friendly against Denmark. If he had done so, he would have had a chance of featuring in his country's European Qualifier against the Faroe Islands.

However, when the 24-man was announced today, Alexander's name was nowhere to be seen.

Berti Vogts has named Rab Douglas of Celtic and Neil Sullivan of Spurs, and he has given the third keeper shirt to Paul Gallacher of Dundee Utd.

Alexander will, of course, be disappointed, but he is still young and he knows that his time will come. If he keeps up the outstanding displays for the Bluebirds, then the sky is the limit.

Neil's omission means that he will now be able to play against Plymouth Argyle on September 7.

Speaking about Alexander, Sam Hammam said: Neil Alexander, who is knocking on the door for a full Scottish cap, is a very exciting prospect. The guy can go anywhere in football."
