Cardiff City vs Northampton Town

It was a disappointing day for the Bluebirds, as they crashed to their first defeat of the season. Here’s Bluebird to the Bone’s Player Rating’s for today’s game.

Neil Alexander

5

A disappointing performance from Neil today, who could have done better with both of Northampton’s goals. Martyn Margetson may get a look into first team contention soon unless Alexander improves his game.

Rhys Weston

6

Weston had a quiet game today, and didn’t push forward as much as he normally does. Made no major errors, but will need to get more involved in the action if he is to stay in the first XI.

Chris Barker

6

Barker was also quiet today, and made a mistake with Town’s second goal. Didn’t look 100% fit, and ended up being replaced by Spencer Prior.

Daniel Gabbidon

6

Made a few decent tackles, but not one of Gabbidon’s better performances. In my opinion, he looks more comfortable on the right.

Gary Croft

7

Croft got forward well, but struggled to deliver a good final ball. Having said this, he was probably one of our best players today.

Andy Legg

8

Undoubtedly, Cardiff best player. Looks determined to keep his place, and so far he has definitely earned to keep it. His long throw-ins created a few chances for the Bluebirds today.

Gareth Whalley

6

Gareth Whalley, who is a left-sided midfieler, is being forced to play in the centre, so isn’t doing badly considering that. He links up play well, but had a disappointing shot today, and didn’t get involved in the attack enough.

Graham Kavanagh

5

Despite getting on the scoresheet, Kavanagh had one of his worst games for the Bluebirds today, and didn’t look up for it at all. With Maxwell improving all the time, Kavanagh will have to work hard to keep his place in the Bluebirds starting line-up.

Leo Fortune-West

6

Fortune-West failed to keep up his impressive start to the season, after an average performance today.

Andy Campbell

6

Campbell looked very quick today, and had a few decent chances, but also failed to keep up his impressive start to the season.

Peter Thorne

6

Thorne had good spells during the game, but lacked consitancy. Played a part in Cardiff’s only goal of the game.

Subsitutes:

Spencer Prior – 6 – Made no mistakes, decent show.

Robert Earnshaw – 4 – Very poor performance from Earnshaw, who seems to only have his goal bonus on his mind.

Layton Maxwell – 7 – A decent display from Maxwell, although he didn’t get a lot of time to show us much. He is certainly staking a claim for a first team place
