CARDIFF CITY 2-0 BRENTFORD
Report by "Sam's Cat"
Fine autumnal evening, a healthy crowd of over 12,000 swelled by a tiny but vocal couple of car loads from West London, saw Cardiff City soar into joint second place at Ninian Park this evening.
Since the start of the season many of the increasingly knowledgeable faithful have been calling for Earnshaw to start, and now after two games in which he has begun, six points are in the bag.
In a lively game against a large and combatitive Brentford side, City deservedly took the lead following a superb cross from the right wing by "Earnie", which was sweetly met by Andy Legg. The header nearly broke the net in the Grange End goal.
A flowing game of football was nearly spoilt by some erratic refereeing decisions, the vast majority of which went against the home side it seems!
Half time 1-0
Brentford were never out of the hunt and kept going forward as they had done throughout the opening forty five minutes, however it was always going to be that another goal for the bluebirds would kill the game off.
Earnshaw racing onto to a through ball outpaced the challenging defender and his chipped shot from the edge of the area dropped into the goal leaving the Brentford custodian clutching at thin air.
Despite bringing on three substitutes Brentford were unable to break down the Cardiff defences. This despite some assistance from the ref, including moving a free kick forward 10 yards and numerous other petty fould being awarded against the Welsh team.
Earnie left the field late in the game to a standing ovation, he made some errors and some of his final control still lets him down, but overall his enthusiasm and hunger is proving an asset to the team.
As one fan was heard to say eralier this evening " All aboard the victory bus, next stop Division One "
Full time 2-0
