Cheltenham Town have cut short Michael Simpkins' loan spell at Whaddon Road and he has been sent back to Cardiff City.
Unfortunately for Simpkins, new Town boss, Bobby Gould who had a spell in charge of Cardiff during the 2000/2001 promotion season has decided to cut the loan deal short. Simpkins made just three appearances for Cheltenham during his loan spell, including an FA Cup Third Round tie with Sheffield United. The Sheffield-born defender joined the Bluebirds at the start of the 2001/2002 season, and started as City's first choice left back, but injury problems during the season saw him dropped from the starting XI. A disappointing performance in the LDV Vans Trophy match with AFC Bournemouth has kept Simpkins well out of first team contention.

The
24 year-old joined the Robins towards the end of last year in a loan deal
which was supposed to see him spend 3 months with Town who are currently
struggling at the wrong end of the Division Two table.
