The Football League has announced a new three year deal with brewers Coors, which will see the League Cup be named as the Carling Cup.

The previous five year contract with Coors, which saw the competition under the title of the Worthington Cup ended last season, but a new deal has been agreed.

The Football League had been struggling to find a new sponsor, after Coors had been reluctant to sign a new deal.

Football League Chairman Sir Brian Mawhinney is delighted by the news, saying: "This new agreement is terrific news for the League. The healthy increase in revenue it delivers will provide a timely boost to our clubs as they begin their preparations for the new season and is a massive vote of confidence in League football.

"Over the past five seasons Coors Brewers have become highly valued partners to the Football League.

"By extending our partnership a further three years with Carling, their premium brand, they have given a significant endorsement to the importance of this competition.

"I would like to thank Coors Brewers for their continued support and I look forward to three very successful seasons of cup football."

The draw for the first round of the Cup is made on Wednesday, at 10am. The draw is regionalised, meaning City will get a club in the southern part of the United Kingdom.
