City's out-of-favour striker Gavin Gordon has been linked with a loan move to a series of Football League clubs. The 24-year-old has scored 14 goals since his £500,000 move from Lincoln City three seasons ago, and will be desperate for some regular first team experience.

Several Football League clubs are believed to be showing interest in signing City’s out-of—favour striker Gavin Gordon on a loan basis. City’s Number 20 spent a brief loan spell with Oxford United last season, making 3 starts for the U’s and scoring 1 goal. Gordon has made 3 appearances as a substitute so far this campaign for the Bluebirds. However, following a poor performance against West Ham United in the League Cup, the former Lincoln City forward has not appeared in any of City’s match-day squad, with Lennie Lawrence preferring the versatile James Collins to warm the bench, who can play as either a defender or a striker. A series of frustrating injuries and big-money signings such as Peter Thorne and Alan Lee have denied Gordon the run of appearances he needs to gain any consistent form since his £500,000 move from Lincoln City during the 2000/2001 season, and a loan move away from Ninian Park would give Gordon some valuable first team experience. Gordon has scored some important goals in the Cardiff City shirt, 14 in all, and at the young age of 24 the Manchester-born striker could still have something to offer Cardiff City. A successful loan spell could come as a real confidence booster, and could provide match fitness to make Gordon an adequate substitute striker at this level. A part-time move could be put on hold though, with City’s striker Andy Campbell facing a suspension and possible disciplinary action after his red card against Crystal Palace, and Alan Lee out until Christmas as he recovers from a cartilage operation. |
