City striker Gavin Gordon has two games to prove himself to manager Lennie Lawrence, as he looks to earn an extension to his current contract at Ninian Park. Gordon’s 4-year City deal expires at the end of the current season, and City’s current 5th choice striker must prove his worth to the Bluebirds squad in the upcoming First Division fixtures against Burnley and Stoke City. The former Lincoln City forward has landed his chance in the City first-team thanks to injuries to Peter Thorne and Alan Lee, and the suspension of Andy Campbell, and so far Gordon has impressed, particularly with a man of the match display at Highfield Road last Saturday. Gordon now has a probable two games left in the City starting line-up, Burnley away and Stoke City’s visit to Ninian Park, before Peter Thorne is expected to return from injury, and he must prove to City boss Lennie Lawrence that he deserves a new contract. “Gavin has done very well – but he has to continue that form and more,” said Lawrence. “His contract is up at the end of the season. This is not his last chance, but it’s as good a chance as he is going to get.” Gordon’s career as a Bluebird since his £550,000 move from Lincoln City has been ridden with injuries that have denied him a decent run in the first-team. Big money signings have also meant Gordon has struggled to get many matches, but he now has a superb chance to prove his worth to the Cardiff City camp and the supporters, which could earn him a new contract. |
