| Robert Earnshaw's 17th strike of the
season salvaged a point for the Bluebirds in an entertaining 1-1 draw with
Burnley at Turf Moor. Burnley took the lead seven minutes into the second-half, after dominating the opening forty-five minutes. Youngster Richard Chaplow connected superbly with a Glen Little cross to fire past Neil Alexander to give the Clarets a deserved lead. Robert Earnshaw proved the City saviour once again though with the equalising goal coming less than 15 minutes from time. The Zambian-born striker showed awareness as he latched onto a sloppy back pass from Graham Branch, and powered the ball home with a left-footed effort, sending the 900 travelling supporters into delight! City battled back well in the second-half in a game, taking advantage of Burnley's failure to turn possession and chances from the opening half into a goal. Chaplow, Blake, Little and Branch all had god chances, but they failed to take the opportunities leaving manager Stan Ternent fuming on the touch line. The Bluebirds' best chance of the first-half was probably their first opportunity just after the half-hour mark. Gavin Gordon did well to tower above the Burnley defence to get a head on Tony Vidmar's cross, but the chance flew just inches over the crossbar. Graham Kavanagh also went close with a free-kick that was well saved only moments before the break. Gary Croft was absent from the starting line-up due to personal reasons, which meant Tony Vidmar switched to right back and the experienced Spencer Prior was back in action. Richard Langley was suspended for the trip, which left Willie Boland a clear-run back into the side after completing a three-match ban. Julian Gray was introduced as a substitute late on, but his lack of first team fitness means he has not been selected to start yet since arriving at Ninian Park, and with the loan deal expiring shortly, it's looking like a bit of a wasted deal so far. City were perhaps a little lucky to take a point from this one, with Burnley's inability to take advantage of the game when they were on top cost them victory. The Point means City rise to the dizzy heights of 9th place in the First Division, and victory over Stoke City next Saturday could possibly take us 7th. Full Time - Burnley 1-1 Cardiff City |
