The Football League will return to Sky Sports next season, along with the Worthington Cup, Playoffs and LDV Vans Trophy matches. A new deal has been agreed to keep these competitions with Sky for a further four seasons.
Sports have secured the rights to show Football League, Worthington Cup and LDV Vans football live for the next for years.
After the collapse of ITV Digital, which left many lower league clubs in huge financial problems, Sky have bought back the rights in a deal worth £95million. The deal will keep these competitions on Sky for at least the next 4 years.
The new deal will mean that next season Sky viewers will see:
- 60 Football League Games, from all 3 divisions.
- Playoff Finals – including semi-final coverage, and all 3 finals Live.
- Live Worthington Cup Games, with up to two matches from each round, and the semi-finals and final live.
- LDV Vans Trophy Final.
This is great news for all football fans, and the football League clubs themselves. Chief Executive of the Football League, David Burns was clearly delighted by the news saying, "This is great news for The Football League and its clubs and we are absolutely delighted to be returning to Sky Sports."
A list of fixtures to be shown live on Sky will be released shortly.
