Cardiff City have lost their second game in a row after a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Wolves last night.

Nathan Blake made an emotional return to Ninian Park, for the first time since leaving Cardiff for Sheffield United in 1994. Blake was given a very good reception by the 7,000ish Cardiff fans, as he ran out onto the Ninian Park wearing the captains armband for Wolves.

The game was an entertaining one, with both sides showing good spells of play, but over the 90 minutes Wolves were the better side and deserved their victory.

Cardiff had a fair amount of possession throughout the game, but failed to create any real chances, and didn't give Wolves 'keeper, one shot to save throughout the match.

City started the game playing 4-4-2, with Campbell and Thorne starting up-front, with Robert Earnshaw and Leo Fortune-West being introduced as substitutes during the second half. Graham Kavanagh played a more attacking role during the match too.

Cardiff started as follows:
Alexander, Weston, Young, Gabbidon, Barker, Boland, Whalley, Maxwell, Kavanagh, Campbell and Thorne.

Cardiff best chance of the match came early on, when Cardiff went 2 on 1 with the Wolves 'keeper, but Kavanagh was greedy and put his long-range effort wide of the target.

Former City star, Nathan Blake had Wolves' best chance of the game, but Neil Alexander dived at the feet of Blake before he could get his shot in after being set-up by Dean Sturridge.

Wolves' next decent chance didn't come until the 70-minute mark, when man of the match, Danny Gabbidon cleared Nathan Blake's header off the line, and Sturridge put the rebound wide.

With just 6 minutes left on the referees watch, Gabbidon made his only mistake of a solid performance, completely missing the ball when trying to clear it away, and this let Adam Proudlock race through and conformably tuck the ball passed Neil Alexander.

There were certainly things that require improvement, but all in all it was a good performance by the Bluebirds, who put up a good fight against one of the best sides in the First Division.
