Away against Moseley on a freezing January Saturday is one of the days you come to realise why you love rugby (or are little masochistic!)
All wrapped up in about eight layers, we made our way to Forgate Street Station to catch the 11:51 to Yardley Green. Now this service is a stopper, finally rumbling into Yardley Green at 13:05 after a circuitous route around the more salubrious parts of the locale such as Tisley, The Hawthorns and Small Heath to name but three.
As we trundled along, several other hardy souls in Warriors garb joined us and there may have been a libation or two taken to keep out the cold. Strangely the train was on time, so after depositing our drinking vessels in the nearest rubbish receptacle, we toddled over the road to a local hostelry, of the Irish persuasion, to find that the locals were not averse to having the rugby on the telly box! More libations taken on board against the cold then it was on to the Number 3 bus to get us to Billesley Common and the object of the day, Moseley Rugby v Worcester Warriors in the IPA Championship.
The Warriors made ‘fairly’ good head way in the first half with a point a minute, scoring 6 tries and had the game won with 40 to go as the score was 5 - 40 at half time. The second half was much the same as all the second halves have been this season (when we been in similar dominant position) , not a lot to shout about. But with the final score at 10 -50 there were no complaints to be honest. It was a tad on the chilly side and the phrase “Who would be a winger” came to mind, as the support shivered on the touch line, up to the uppers in mud in some places.
Moseley had put on the Tredegar Orpheus Male Voice Choir for the gathered throng, and after the game, the now warming support, was set in good cheer with the Choir’s excellent rendition of songs old and new.
After a brisk walk back to the pub and a drop or two, to expel the chill that had settled in, the journey back to Worcester on the train was quite quiet!
So a good result, good company, new friends and no hangover. These are the days.

Nice article, PE. It was a bit on the chilly side, wasn't it! Good day out, though.
