Rugby Family

My most favourite fixtures of a premiership season are those against Sale Sharks.
Not because of the rugby as they have a tendency to get the better of us, although not last Saturday! It’s because there are many of the Sale fans who are now a huge part of my Rugby Family.
Having met some of them at the Kasam Stadium the first year we were in the prem, the relationship has developed over the years to a very firm friendship. They love coming to Worcester and stay the whole weekend for a Saturday match, travelling down on the Friday and home again on the Sunday.
Feeding Sharks
On matchday the routine is set. Breakfast in The Cricketers at 11 on the bus to the ground at 1:20. The match is spent in different places but after there is always a good conversation about reffing decisions, kicking issues and who got the better of who in the scrum etc etc etc!
We all go for dinner somewhere in Worcester and end up in The Plough for after dinner drinks… It’s a looong day, and a taxi is usually required around 11:30 for the two Powickites..
This summer we will join our Shark friends in the Beer train which will be another very long day.
Networking Sharks
To be able to spend time with such likeminded folks is one of the greatest joys of being a rugby fan. Long may it continue.
I am currently cultivating a similar relationship with some Sarries and Irish fans. There is a catalyst.. Rugby and Beer.. Oh and being a wee bit on the barmy side of bonkers!
