Should be a really good game with plenty to play for, Wuss have been putting together some good results this season, so I'm expecting a battle for the points. Tigers are slowly putting some decent games together, but not yet clinical in putting points on the board, we need to sort out our discipline too.

I think some people will still be cautious about being in a crowd, with good reason. Everything is all a bit different now isn’t it? Went to the pub last night for the first time and it was pretty weird. Beer was good though!

Don't forget it's also a bank holiday, I know of a few ST holders who didn't enter the ballot because it's the first chance in months to get away.

I'm hoping some better weather will help us play the expansive game we want to play. However, we need to keep our discipline in the middle of the park otherwise Tigers will kill us with Mauls. Soft penalties under little or no pressure giving easy access to our 22 have in my mind been the bane of our season.

Believe they are expecting 3,100 which personally, especially given the @#$%& served up this season, isn’t a bad first game back turnout

Good looking team, will be interested to see how Tyack, Annett and Thomas get on together, hopefully they all have stormers. Great to see Lewis getting a run of games as well.

Youngs with a dummy throw, Leicester are seriously getting away with murder. They're the most boring and cynical team I've seen all season.

Got to feel for Ted Hill there. Guy had an absolute stormer and wanted it so much. Sh1t3 throw by Miller typifying it really at the end.

Still can't buy a win when you have that bench front row. The rest of the replacements were fine, but when your 16 can't throw and both the looseheads and replacement Tighthead can't scrum or carry, then you don't really have a chance.

Did anyone see the match stats we dominated everything but gave away more than double in penalties, and they weren’t all at scrum time. You could see and hear how frustrated Kvesic was with the ref

At least half those penalties must have been us being incapable of securing the ball at the breakdown in attack. Our back row put a huge shift in every game but our support play, carrying, clear outs of everyone else is terrible. Clegg got the ball at one point and just fell to the floor before he was even tackled, we’ve just got no grunt at all in our front five.

Ref gave quite a few penalties against Worcester for holding on - and very quickly. I don't believe that he penalised Leicester as much for that - if at all.

Jamie Shillcock stood out again, and appears to work well with Fin Smith’s game. Another one very close to winning- but missed a couple of opportunities earlier on and got turned ovr and make mistakes later on in the game

Re: Warriors Vs Tigers - Match Tracker
Posted by: Whispering_Death (IP Logged)
Date: 30/05/2021 08:06

I agree, now Shilcock is actually getting a run of starts at fullback he’s looking better every game, as is Venter. My concern in the backline at the moment is Lawrence, he seems to have been badly affected by his England experience to me, he’s not the same player this year. Although I will say he looked like he was limping from very early on yesterday so perhaps he’s been carrying an injury.

Re: Warriors Vs Tigers - Match Tracker
Posted by: Faithful_City (IP Logged)
Date: 30/05/2021 08:16

I agree on both points.

I feel Lawrence has taken to heart how Jones wants him to play, as a battering ram, he is much more skillful than that. He is a very good 13 quick, good feet and takes the right penetrative running lines. If he continues to play the Jones method he will go further backwards.

Shillcock was my man of the match. I felt he was outstanding and playing in his best position, which is going to create a selection headache with Nanai.

I would have

15. Shillcock
14. Van Der Merwe
13. Lawrence/Morris
12. Venter
11. Nanai

I think that would be a very very potent back line.

Positives:
Shilly, (looking much more composed) Ted, (his best game in a long time) Matt Kvesic, Sam Lewis, (bodies on the line, gave 100%as usual) and Tyack (not too bad on his first game).
I thought Fin Smith and Doel both looked like they could both be good in time.
Oh yes, and we scored two tries!
Negatives: Thomas, Lawrence ( not looking as good at the moment), silly errors, too slow offering support at the breakdown, and TOO MANY PENALTIES! 17!

A one point loss is tough to take, but again it was there for the taking.

Re: Warriors Vs Tigers - Match Tracker

11 bonus points so far, is that the most we have had after 20 games?

Really pleased with the game yesterday, notwithstanding the result.

Very pleased hoe Tyack stepped in and played really well against one of the best looseheads in the country(in the set piece), give him some 1 to 1 conditioning and we may have a cracker.

Venter needs a mention, he has been outstanding for a few weeks now, yesterday was another very good performance. He certainly gives us some go forward in the midfield.

Smith at 18 years old was calm made good decisions and did not look out of place against a very good backrow intent on laying him out. AND he is brave.

Overall a good performance all round.

JP

PS I do like Clegg.

Re: Warriors Vs Tigers - Match Tracker
Posted by: Faithful_City (IP Logged)
Date: 30/05/2021 09:29

We also missed 2.

I don’t think we are being misled by the score line the game was clearly a very competitive close game which either side could have won.

AND We were competitive right upto the whistle, in fact Tigers were saved by the last ditch tackle on Hill and previously on Harri Doel.

We can hold our heads high after that game

We missed at least one kick and got turned over god knows how many times close to their line....story of our season I know but sort that out and even with a mullered scrum we win that game, potentially quite easily.

Re: Warriors Vs Tigers - Match Tracker

Our tight-heads had two prem caps between them. We have only two fit hookers. Black was playing his first game in eons. And we were playing against a Borthwick team. Saw enough in Jay to be heartened.

In fairness to the ref, the penalty count was a true reflection of the game. Our wingers lacked support. He has to blow with three Tigers legally competing for the ball on the ground and not a Worcester player in sight.

Some clubs when they announce their match day squads include the number of first team appearances in brackets - Wasps? Saracens?

If Worcester did that, it would show how inexperienced the front 5 yesterday actually are.

Having watched some highlights, there were some good tries scored by both sides and some things on display that both sides have to work on. I'm told you had a good first half by someone at the game, but we had a better second, the scoreboard is what it is, we lost a final the week before by one point, just need to work harder to put that right. Tigers rested quite a lot of key players, Borthwick seems to have an eye on winning home games more than away ones at the moment, expect a very different side next week at Welford Road.

Re: Warriors Vs Tigers - Match Tracker

I don't particularly agree with "respect the kicker" as it is generally accepted that the kickers retreat into their own worlds and are oblivious to outside distraction, but as we have it as a courtesy, how come the Tigers 15 do as is expected, whereas Tom Youngs et al practice their line-out directly behind the posts, and throw their jumper up just at the critical moment. Why do the touch judges not stop this?

Re: Warriors Vs Tigers - Match Tracker
Posted by: ROLLO (IP Logged)
Date: 31/05/2021 11:02

They do it because they are reverting to type " always cheating " I remember Tom Youngs playing against us for Nottingham, my opinion of him has not basically changed.

Re: Warriors Vs Tigers - Match Tracker
Posted by: WorcesterSauce (IP Logged)
Date: 31/05/2021 11:19

Respect the kicker is such nonsense. I was sat behind a school group last season who just couldn’t get their heads around why they were being asked to be quiet at a sporting event after the most important score of the game. Obviously a small point but if the game is serious about attracting younger fans it needs to just forget it.

Re: Warriors Vs Tigers - Match Tracker
Posted by: EB8 (IP Logged)
Date: 31/05/2021 12:31

I think the respect the kicker should stay. I can't imagine the Ryan Lamb kick in 2015 being as good without the hush, then eruption of joy as it goes over. I like it, it's different to other sports.

Re: Warriors Vs Tigers - Match Tracker
Posted by: Offa (IP Logged)

Different in the northern hemisphere.
There is quite a lot of pantomime booing and hissing in the south (and actually I quite like it).

The worst I have ever heard from the crowd, was one of our own supporters shouting out as Henson struck the ball at Ashton Gate in the playoffs.

I would be in favour of dropping the Respect the Kicker, but my point is that as we have it, the officials should be enforcing it.

Re: Warriors Vs Tigers - Match Tracker
Posted by: Faithful_City (IP Logged)
Date: 31/05/2021 13:39

I think being quiet adds more pressure than booing/cheering.

Then the explosion of exaltation or depression has an even bigger effect on the kicker

Re: Warriors Vs Tigers - Match Tracker
Posted by: NW2 (IP Logged)
Date: 31/05/2021 13:56

Whether you are for it or against it, surely there is a difference between fans booing, cheering, catcalling, or whatever, than the opposition team being allowed to do something behind their goal line to distract the kicker? I think that should definitely be stopped, and that’s from someone who was all for Chris Latham’s pointing antics at the time!

You are allowed to lift a player under the post to stop the ball going over, especially useful if it’s a very long kick and might just squeeze over the bar.

But the captain needs to be on the pitch more than he’s off and I think Baldwin will be a nailed on starter with Annett coming off the bench.

It’s a difficult one, I have no problems with Willie Heinz taking the captains armband as he has a lot of experience leading Glaws. Matt Kvesic has been conspicuous in talking to the ref recently. Ted Hill needs to focus on his game, he was excellent against Tigers but has been average for most of the season. The captain does not have to be your best player but some both the players and the referee respects.

I agree, Heinz captain for me. Heinz is highly likely to start most games. I think making Hill captain has put too much on his plate this season, a player his age should just be focused on performing consistently at prem level.
