Yet another masterpiece from our very own RT. What will we read in two weeks time on the final piece of the season?

The House of the Rising Sun (For those that remember the Sounds of the Sixties) |
|
After a Saturday Night Fever of apprehension, worrying about ignominy and injury in a match against the European Champions, the Warriors’ supporters gathered at Sixways. Those of us with A Ticket to Ride took our seats on the coaches and set off. Our coach-driver was Tom, a real King of the Road. During the journey, we were all Busy Doing Nothing except wondering whether we would be Crying in the Rain by the end of the day. As we left, however, the sunshine made us feel that we were All Going on a Summer Holiday.
The festive mood was maintained when we arrived at the Causeway Stadium, having driven through the Little Boxes of High Wycombe. At the ground, however, it was Money, Money, Money with beer at £3 a pint! The place was awash with Warriors’ supporters, all dressed in Worcester colours like The Dedicated Followers of Fashion that they are. Most of the Worcester fans were happy to be Lazin’ on a Sunny Afternoon, but some already had The Hippy Hippy Shake about the game to come. When the Warriors came out on to the pitch, the enthusiastic crowd was soon Singing the Blues to cheer on their heroes.
Wasps set off like a Runaway Train and when Josh Lewsey crossed the try line like a Wild Thing, it seemed that there was nothing the Warriors could do to stop the rot. Anyone who has a Heart felt worried about what looked like a possible massacre. But Pat Sanderson, the Leader of the Pack, rallied his troops. Despite all the Wasps attempts to Shake, Rattle and Roll our defence, it held firm. Just before half-time, James Brown, dropped a goal. “It’s Over,” shouted the supporters behind the goal. It gave us a great sense of Satisfaction.
During half-time we reminisced about last season. “Those were the Days, my Friend,” said someone. “This year has been Amazing, Grace; perhaps It’s Only Make-Believe.
After half-time, there was a short period when we were Glad All Over and it looked as if we might come away with a win. If that happened, it would certainly make us All Believe in Angels. Thomas Lombard, running like Poetry in Motion, intercepted a pass and crashed over the line. A short time later, my Heart Beat faster as another try seemed certain, but an awkward pass was left Blowing in the Wind and the chance was lost.
It was shortly after this that Pat was sin-binned. “Ain’t Misbehaving,” he told the referee, but it was to no avail. Fortunately, the punishment was Only Mellow Yellow but, with the Warriors a man down, it was certainly Three Steps to Heaven for Wasps and they took full advantage of the situation to score twice.
Meanwhile, the Warriors continued to defend like men possessed. Some Wasps players must have been seeing Great Balls of Fire after hits put in by Dale and Thomas. In our scrums, as we closed our ranks, one member of the back row was heard to whisper to Matt Powell, “You don’t have to say you love me, just be close at hand”.
As the pressure started to tell, the inevitable substitution of hooker occurred (but not for us). On came Wasps’ Amazing Dancing Bear: Trevor Leota. A fired-up André, taking no prisoners, soon eyeballed the big man: “Welcome to my World,” he growled.
By this time, there was other hanky-panky going on. When Leota flattened James Brown off the ball, the supporters turned A Whiter Shade of Pale. But JB is made of sterner stuff. He got to his feet saying “I don’t Feel So Fine, but Let’s Dance”.
This incident, which went unpunished, brings me to the referee: the man who’s Got The Whole World in his Hands. Unfortunately, at times in this game, he was more like A Puppet on a String as Dallaglio said, “I’ll Do It My Way”.
Finally, we were Out of Time and the whistle went. Congratulations are due to Wasps (they are an awesome outfit) and to My Boy Loll(ipop), their Captain, who was Man of the Match.
As we left the stadium, Raindrops Were Falling on My Head, but we were delighted that our players came back out on to the pitch to receive our cheers because, lads, I Can’t Help Loving You and we were proud of you to-day.
As we made our way back along the M40 towards The Green, Green Grass of Home, we reflected that With a Little Help from My Friends, Even the Bad Times are Good, We were all Looking on the Bright Side of Life and thinking that with our next game It’s Now or Never.
Now, I Have a Dream that When the Saints Come Marching In to Sixways in two weeks’ time, the Super Troupers of the Warriors will put in a Hard Day’s Night and achieve Fame as the first promoted side to stay up in the Premiership.
When that happens, the team can be sure that they will Never Walk Alone in Worcester again. As for the supporters, they will be Walking Back to Happiness in an alcoholic haze of delight!
Worcester Warriors Walk on Water!
