City begin the new Nationwide Conference Season with a 0-0 draw at home to Kettering Town in front of a healthy crowd of over 2,200………….

Finally, the wait is over and Chester’s long awaited promotion push has begun. City faced Conference new boys Kettering Town at the Deva and were hoping to get off to a flying start. It was not to be as the hard working Kettering eleven frustrated Chester and made it a difficult afternoon for the Blues.

The best chance of the game fell to Beesley mid way through the first half when he was played through and closed in on Ian Bowling before making bad contact and striking wide. Kettering had a series of corners but nothing came of them.

In the second half Chester had no fewer than four opportunities cleared off the Kettering goal line. Man Of The Match Michael Twiss looked dangerous along with Kettering’s Gez Murphy.

Mark Wright put big Dave Cameron and Ryan Sugden on in the second half to accommodate the long ball tactics.

Although the result is disappointing, we must not be too disheartened this early in the season and have to let the team continue with their gelling process. Next up for City is an away tie with Telford United on Monday.
