Match Report – Margate

The all whites of Chester left it late, but took all the points from a tough encounter with Margate at the Crable. Substitute Dave Cameron met a cross from trialist Brady to keep Chester within a point of Yeovil Town.

Chester City – Trialist, Lancaster, Ruffer, Bolland, Harkness, McIntyre, Kelly, Carden, Brady, Twiss, Sugden.

A trialist keeper replaced suspended Wayne Brown for the trip to Margate and was rarely tested. Martyn Lancaster covered at the back for injured Scott Guyett as City tried to continue their impressive record of no goals conceeded away from home.

Mark Wright’s men never got going in the game and struggled to create chances in the first 45 minutes although the half saw Michael Twiss squander a chance from 8 yards out after the Margate keeper failed to gather a Ryan Sugden strike.

Margate’s Leon Braithwaite was particularly impressive for the opposition and trouble City’s back three a number of times.

Chester were more creative in the second half and were able to carve out a number of half chances. Carden struck just wide from 10 yards and Michael Twiss should off headed towards goal from Brady’s cross rather than controlling it.

Jimmy Kelly saw 2 strikes fly over before Ryan Sugden and Michael Twiss were replaced by Micky Brown and Dave Cameron.

With City unable to score and the game going towards another scoreless draw Brady sent over a cross to the back post where Dave Cameron had the simple task of heading in from no more than 3 yards.

Chester remain just a point off the top of the table but the lack of goals is becoming a concern for City with only 18 goals in their last 13 league games. Yeovil’s 6-0 drumming of 3rd placed Southport highlighted the fact.
