Match Report – Gravesend & Northfleet

Mark Wright is still looking for a striker to bring in after the Daryl Clare bid fell through earlier this week. The lack of goals is becoming a real concern and without Ryan Sugden’s 10 the situation known as a drought.

After losing Live on Sky Sports on Tuesday night, Chester were looking to bounce straight back with a victory over Gravesend and Northfleet. It wasn’t to be as Chester were held to a 1-1 draw with a Gravesend side high on confidence after three conference victories on the bounce.

Gravesend took a first half lead through a header which on loan keeper Ian McAldon failed to keep out. Chester created chances without finishing in front of goal. It remained at 1-0 at half time.

It wasn’t long after the restart that Chester equalised with a Ryan Sugden 8 yard strike. That took Sugden’s tally to 10 for the season, half the amount the whole team have accumulated only 20 this season.

The score ended 1-1 but not before Chester squandered a number of chances. Notably when Ryan Sugden failed to make contact with a low cross at the back post.

Chester are now in 2nd position in the conference but slip to 4 points behind Yeovil Town at the top.
