Match Report – Colchester United

Chester City - W Brown, Guyett, Bolland, Hatswell, McIntyre, Brady, Davies, Carden, Carey, Tate, Clare.

Chester City will face fellow conference outfit, Morecambe in the second round of the FA Cup after a shock away victory over Colchester United of Division 2.

City dominated the game against the team from 2 leagues above them and could and should of scored more. On loan striker Chris Tate was in inspired form and saw a two 30 yard strikes almost ripple the Colchester net before he spun and struck to put Chester ahead on 83 minutes.

Chester had a number of shots from range in the first half and had corner after corner without beating Brown in Colchester’s goal.

In the second half the blues continued to pile on the pressure and Tate struck a venomous strike from 30 yards which went inches wide of the upright. Minutes later Tate spotted Brown off his line and attempted a 30 yard lob which Brown acrobatically tipped over.

Substitute Micky Brown almost netted when he ran through the Colchester defence and forced Brown (the keeper) to pull off a great save down to his right.

With just 7 minutes remaining on the clock Phil Bolland headed back a free kick which Tate let run past him before turning his marker and smashing his shot past Brown from 5 yards.

Colchester pushed forward and almost equalised with Wayne Brown making a fine reaction save.
