Davenport withdrawls with ankle injury

Lindsay Davenport withdrawls from the Generali Ladies tournament in Linz Austria. She was having an injury in Zurich last week when she played Justine Henin, who questioned the truth behind the treatment.

Sunday evening the tournament management was notified about the injury Lindsay Davenport held from playing in Linz. Davenport said that she was very unhappy about not being able to play and that it was impossible to give her best with this injury.

Because of the withdrawel the roster of the main draw will change. Dokic will get the spot in the bottom half that is left by Davenport.

Elena Dementieva reached the second round after defeating Ai Sugiyama.

The two Italian players Farina Elia and Schiavone had to play each other. Farina Elia took the victory for the next round 7:6 (5) 6:3.

Five players are making their debut appearance at the Generali Ladies Linz. They include the No.1 seed Jennifer Capriati as well as the No.5 seed Daniela Hantuchova. Meghann Shaughnessy, Francesca Schiavone and Eleni Daniilidou are also making their first appearance in Linz.
