Second seed Meghann Shaughnessy endured a nervy match with Magui Serna before booking her place in the semi-finals of the Canberra Classic.

A series of disputed line calls distracted the American, who is the competition's top surviving seed.

But she kept her composure long enough to secure a 7-6, (7/5) 6-4 win which will take her into a match with Emelie Loit of France.

Loit ousted Italian Adriana Serra-Zanetti 6-4, 6-2.

Shaughnessy and Francesca Schiavone of Italy are the only other remaining seeded players left.

Schiavone, seeded fifth, will meet French qualifier Marion Bartoli in Friday's semi-final after ousting compatriot Flavia Pennett 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.

Bartoli had an easy job disposing of German Marlene Weingartner in straight sets to advance to the semi-finals.
