Myskina needs luck to win

Russian duo Anastasia Myskina and Elena Dementieva all overcame tough third round wins to make it into the quarter-finals against each other

Second seed Myskina lost the first set to Nadia Petrova 7-5 but the second seed fought back to gain the second set 6-4 then was lucky when Petrova withdrew due to a ankle injury at 0-1. Petrova has only recently come back from a shoulder injury and looks to be plagued by them at this stage of her career.

Russia's top player hasn't played very well in recent weeks losing back to back in the opening rounds at Indian Wells and Miami and is bidding to get her game back on track. She next plays Elena Dementieva who also had a difficult time against French Open champion Mary Pierce.

Mary Pierce making her first tour appearance in four months took the first set 6-3 but Dementieva picked up her game claiming the next sets relatviely easy. 3-6, 6-1, 6-3

A big win for Iva Majoli also a French Open champion, beating Martina Hingis in the 1997 final with Hingis only recently coming back from injury, beat Iroda Tulyaganova. Majoli who also beat Anna Kournikova could be a big threat at this tournament after winning Family Circle Cup last year and next plays Paola Suarez.
