Qualifier upsets Maleeva

Arantxa Parra produced the match of her life to beat fifth seed Magdalena Maleeva with a 6-7, 6-4, 6-1 win at the J&S Cup Warsaw, Poland

The Bulgarian who is returning to the tour after a long lay off struggled during the first set then the following sets the qualifier upped her game to advance into the second round.

Another qualifier won through to the next round to face Venus Williams, Zuzana Ondraskova beat Martina Sucha of Slovakia 6-4, 6-3 to set up a second round against the world number two.
